Get him snapped up
After watching him today more closely, I don't think Jamie Redknapp calling him the best central defender in this division is that wild of a statement.
I thought him and bald ex Chelsea fella in midfield (Omerou?) were excellent.

He was commanding in the area and bloody dangerous at set pieces.
I was really impressed with him.

I couldn't work out whether he was playing centre back or full back. He seemed to be all across the back line

The bold lad Romeo (sp) should have walked IMO.
However Van Dijk was top drawer, did he lose an header all afternoon?
Oh yes the one at the end v Ben Mee

Best central defender at t'Turf this season. Quick, skillful, great in the air, read the game well. Almost a case of keeping the play away from him.

Rolls Royce of a player, Southampton as a whole looked a very decent side, they are sorely missing Austin though.

He's a Champions League defender no doubt - has everything you'd want in a modern day centre-half.
Romeu was very good in the first half but we got much more joy around him in the second, but I agree he should have walked for two blatant yellow case offences.

He was sensational, I'd be shocked if there wasn't a bidding war for him in the summer.

He ran the show at the back, barnes did well but when up against him he came off second best

He was a different gravy today. We were never scoring from open play because every time we looked like we might do something Van Dijk just snuffed it out; whether it was in the middle or out wide. Big, strong, commanding, comfortable on the ball, decent turn of pace... he's much better than I've previously given him credit for. However, as good as he was, I thought Keane wasn't far behind. What a pairing those two could be for someone.

Probably the best centre half i've ever seen live, and 1 of the only one's to deal easily with our Ash, easily worth £50M, better than stones.

Good footballer, just cut out the niggly fouls and the pushing and shoving and he might make a great one.

At last! A visiting team who can actually defend! Van Dijk looked real class and without him Saints wouldn't be half the side they are at present. Clearly on his way to much bigger things.

He never really broke sweat today and cruised through the game with ease.
Classic example of making the game look easy. Very, very impressive.

What? Bring in someone who was a loser today and plays for a team that's sitting below us in the league. That would be an insult to our TEAM.

Straight swap for Kevin Long and give him a go in the u23s - see if our coaching team can make a player out of him.

I doubt he's arsed about his current club losing to his future club

nah seriously, I was praising an opposition players performance because I was surprised at how good he actually is, probably one of the best defensive performances from one individual opposition player I have seen live. I wanted other posters' opinion to see if I was over reacting/it was all in my head. Sorry if I upset you, I wasn't saying anything negative about us/our performance/our manager.

I said the same. He was practically covering for the rest of his defence, particularly the shaky looking Yoshida. Imagine how good he'll be alongside 3 top class defenders.

Romeu's a nasty piece of work. He did finally get a booking for a cynical foul on the touchline but he should have been booked earlier.

I think he would be bound for Real Madrid or Barcelona in the future. I had nothing but praise for his skill, strength and composure. When he moves onto better things, we will look back and say we saw him playing against Burnley, but on the losing side.

Great player. Made his foul on gray look like a normal acceptable challenge. At least that's what the ref thought.
Seriously though he Looked utter class. As did Keane.

He looked like a snooker player thinking about two or three moves ahead so he was always in exactly the right place at the right time. Allied to strong technical skill and athletic prowess. You have the complete player.
Didn't think he was too hot up front though.
