Oldham fans can go on next weeks game for free
They are running some sort of offer where it just seems any supporter of Oldham (how do you prove it?) can go and watch their game against Peterborough for free.
Is this a good thing? Or a slap in the face to season ticket holders? How would we feel if this happened here?
Odd decision for me, but if it gets the numbers up then I guess.. whats the harm.

Give it a year or so and R*vers will be stooping to these schemes.

Did we not have a bring a mate along for free once and still didn't fill it?
I remember a few quid a kid games with about 50 extra kids turning up.
Oldham, Bury and Rochdale will IMO soon be all but extinct and used by the Manchester clubs as feeder clubs/reserves.
They cannot survive doing what they are doing now.

The quid a kid games are what got me and a few mates going down together as kids - back when kids could go on the turf in groups. That and the fact it was £30 for a season ticket for a kid back then.MACCA wrote:Did we not have a bring a mate along for free once and still didn't fill it?

Might not have worked massively but a few I went on with then now have season tickets as adults years later.

I'm pretty sure we're the only club to give it's fans a full season for free? Nothing odd about giving away free tickets. Tuesday showed that footballs outpriced so many fans.ClaretAndJew wrote:They are running some sort of offer where it just seems any supporter of Oldham (how do you prove it?) can go and watch their game against Peterborough for free.

One of the main reasons we have steadily built up our fan base is by putting a lot of effort in to the family stand and cheap tickets for young people.
Obviously this coincides with the success of the team but you need incentives to keep people going regular, keep them in the habit of going.
One off offers don't seem to work long time but the flexi tickets were a success.

I think Premier League clubs should let fans in for free every game. Say we now have 16k fans paying an average of £350 a season ticket and you have 4k fans paying an average of £25 per home game, it would cost the club around £7.5 million a season, a small amount when you consider the TV money. And surely there'd be an increase in match day revenue and advertising income.
I'll leave the club to sort out the logistics

Not exactly the most sustainable of business models - but maybe it's a strategy the club has agreed to get the fans to turn out in the hope they can get the team to win a game and get some momentum going.
I doubt Oldham get many walk on fans anyway so this might not be costing them that much anyway - extra income from food and drink sales might compensate the lost revenues from walk ons.
More likely to see this kind of strategy when a team is playing poorly and facing relegation in the lower tiers - so might be something for Judas Horseface and Venkys to chat about next time they are skypeing !

A good idea in principle but would cause more issues than it solves.Fretters wrote:I think Premier League clubs should let fans in for free every game. You need to put a value on the product. Our pricing is spot on. Cheap enough so that anyone who works can afford it but not too cheap to bother undervalue it and if we were to go down put off renewals when the price goes up for an inferior product. Sorry hate that word but best analogy i can think of.
No issue as a season ticket holder though if the club want to give away free tickets to appeal to new types of fans. I dont paay for my season ticket for that reason. I pay for a guaranteed seat in my preferred stand all season and not having to rely on others or queue every saturday.

Re: Oldham fans can go on next weeks game for free
If fans can get Premier league footie admission for free, it might deter fans of lower league clubs to pay their asking prices.
Maybe lets fund football by perhaps Premier £20, Championship £15, League 1 £10, League 2 £5 or a similar pricing policy with Sky redirecting some funds to the lower division clubs. Maybe £25, £20, £15 and £10.

Youre exactly right. And whilst it wouldnt be our problem per se, if we gave away tickets and accy charged 20 quid accy would soon go down the pan. And weve been where they are now. Could easily be us.Darnhill Claret wrote:If fans can get Premier league footie admission for free, it might deter fans of lower league clubs to pay their asking prices.

Fair pricing and funding all round is the best solution.

They'll still probably be overpaying.

Re: Oldham fans can go on next weeks game for free
If I was getting it for Free I would prefer to go to Oldham than to go down the road for free, only way would go there is if they rounded us up and herded us in like cattle Oh hang on a minute!

I went to an Accy Stanley game v Torquay which was free a few years ago. Only 4000 turned up and it was so cold and the game so dull that half the crowd had left by half time.

That's the problem with free admission. You get a bunch of posers showing up who have no real attachment to the club.
