BFC charity in Ghana - fundraising question
Hello all and merry Friday.
A year ago I attended the BFC Ghana project information thing down at turf Moor with a view to possibly going to Ghana to assist in the charity work over there. It turned out that it costs just shy of £2000 which wasn't feasible at the time.
My question is, if I was to go this year would my fellow clarets assist with the cost? It's all to the charity both in Ghana and across Burnley, I don't get the money it's just to help with materials and such.
I hope this doesn't sound too selfish and if anyone has an advice or has even been to Ghana with the charity then I'd love to hear more.
Thanks guys.

Can you tell us some more about what the project aims to achieve, what kind of governance there is, and what would a £2,000 supported volunteer achieve. Sorry if this info is available elsewhere I must have missed the event a year ago. Sounds interesting.

Thanks C and J. I'm a bit embarrassed I had not seen this before. Looks a brilliant project. If you get a fund raising scheme to get yourself out there, off the ground, I'd be happy to contribute.

Re: BFC charity in Ghana - fundraising question
I'm not entirely sure how I'd go about it as I've never done any fundraising and it feels sort of selfish in a sense but it's to send me to help out not paying a holiday. And it's via BFC too.
If I do it ill post more details I'm just looking for people's opinions before I do it.

How about you do charity work in the UK? Why do you need to travel to Ghana?
Sounds to me like you want a free holiday with a little bit of work thrown in

Cleveleys _claret. Are you prepared to go? Can't see it being a Premier Inn experience.

Re: BFC charity in Ghana - fundraising question
If I had the money myself at this time yes I would. I have done this kind of work in Kenya, Northern Thailand and Laos in my younger years. A funded programme such as this is a holiday camp.
Let's break it down....8 days. 2 of these will be spent getting to and from the airport to an out of town location. A weekend adventure trip which will be like a holiday taking up two of the days. Then the first day on camp will be spent going through the safety aspects of the sites. So that leaves 3 days of work.

Cleveleys, fair reply and a bit more information to enable c and J to make his mind up. Best regards.

I've been to Ghana on holiday and every second person is there as a volunteer. The flights are about £600 and you'd do well to spend more than £50 a night on accommodation. Not sure where the rest of the cash is going.

Appreciate the comments.
As I pointed out it seems selfish to ask for fundraising etc I was merely seeing what the response was.
As I said the money also goes towards charities in Burnley and East Lancashire. So it's not 2 grand for me to go on holiday the 2 grand is for materials and what not and the rest going to these at home charities.
