Question re USB keyboards

Post by IndigoLake » Sat Jan 21, 2017 9:23 am

I recently spilled some water on my laptop (very clever, I know) and now a couple of the keys don't work. Thing is, one of those keys is necessary to type my password.

As such, I can't log in to my keyboard to even re-map the keys. My question is if I buy a USB keyboard, will I be able to use it instantly to type my password or will it require some sort of installation beyond the initial password screen? Would be good to have some idea to avoid a wasteful purchase!

Think you just plug new keyboard in. Job done!

I would have thought just pluging it in would over ride the laptop keyboard.
I know I have done it before with a damaged laptop keyboard.
There might though be a key to press to swap keyboards depending on the make of laptop, you will have to read the laptop bumf if you have it.

Similar thing happened to me - bought a wireless keyboard and bob's your uncle.

Up and away in seconds - good luck with it.
