Eurovision: You Decide
On BBC2 now. Brexit will no doubt decrease our 'no chance' to 'no f-ckin chance' but it's a bit of light entertainment.
6 songs performed and we decide which one goes to Kiev.
2 songs done so far, liked the first, thought the second one was HOS.

Is there any point this year?
Anyone close to Russia will definitely vote for them, like they usually do.

There's little point every year Sidney, but it's something different to watch.
That 3rd song was begging to break out into a euphoric anthem, but it just never happened. Good singer, poor song.

Reports that our entry was to be "Border Song" by Elton John proved wide of the mark.

I think whoever wins will sink like a row of vodka shots in Kiev, but #1 for me was the best. It was the most Euphoric, and Eurovision likes that.

Re: Eurovision: You Decide
Lucy won and that song is seriously lacking. She has a good voice, but the song was average at best. Certainly not top 10 material. It was begging to break out into a euro pop song but it doesn't go anywhere.

And anyone who doesn't vote for Russia will promptly be invaded and annexed! Best not to bother joining in!

Somehow I doubt that Russia, Ukraine, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Australia, Israel, etc. are really that bothered about Brexit.karatekid wrote:As if any European countries are gonna vote for us after we told them to get lost. Nil Points again?

Percentage wise though it's more negative than positive. Isn't it around 28 countries in the EU and 44 overall? Australia I don't think can even vote.dsr wrote:Somehow I doubt that Russia, Ukraine, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Australia, Israel, etc. are really that bothered about Brexit.
Re: Eurovision: You Decide
I have a feeling we could make top ten with this. There's quite a big pro UK feeling around Europe, the people that is, not governments

Re: Eurovision: You Decide
It just lacks something to me. Fit singer - check, she's very attractive. Good voice? Check - very good voice (they were all close on the X Factor)... good song? No, I think it lacks something very important. It doesn't breakout like you get with Euro songs. It sticks at the same rate and doesn't go anywhere.Guich wrote:I have a feeling we could make top ten with this. There's quite a big pro UK feeling around Europe, the people that is, not governments
Re: Eurovision: You Decide
Yes, but I'm by no means convinced that 100% of the people in the other 27 EU countries love the EU so much that they will vote the UK down.FactualFrank wrote:Percentage wise though it's more negative than positive. This political voting thing is overblown, anyway. There are three reasons why countries vote for their neighbours, IMO:
1. Expatriates. Cyprus always votes for Greece, because Cyprus is full of Greeks voting for their home country.
2. Similar tastes. The Cypriots who live in Cyprus tend to be closely linked to Greece and Greek-type music.
3. Political reasons. Turkish Cypriots don't vote for Greece because historically they don't like Greeks. (Generalisation, but we are talking about averages here!)
The UK don't get many votes from anyone but Malta and Ireland because we don't have enough expatriates who care about phone votes in the other countries, and possibly because we've got a different cultural background, and possibly because they don't like us. But when Germany won it two or three years back, surely that completely knocked on the head the idea that a country widely disliked can't win?

The soaps are because of us - If we did absolutely nothing, the rest of Europe will still do Eurovision without the UK. It'll still happen, regardless.

But will you still watch it without a UK entry ?

Yeah. The best song is never the UK entry anyway, so I class it as a way to listen to new material.Dazzler wrote:I think you've misunderstood me.

all we need is a fat transexual half way through the pre op wearing rainbow colors who is also mixed race singing a song about peace and love with references to Diana with it being 20 years since hear death and we have nailed euro vision this year.

I think we should start a petition to bring back Humperdinck.
On a side note, I hope to go to Eurovision one day (to watch, not to perform!).
And yes, I'd still watch regardless of a UK entry.

rigged votes, popular with gay audiences for some inexplicable reason.
if they relied on just the artists on stage, it would be caterwauling
