Who decides a fixture date move?

Post by MACCA » Sun Jan 29, 2017 12:50 pm

Just asking as Watford play today v Millwall but then play again on Tuesday, whilst Leeds and Man Utd who also play today have had their fixture moved to Wednesday.

Just thought as it may have been beneficial to us on Saturday, should Arsenal had tired them out Wednesday night.

So my question is, who decides what rest days are needed between fixtures, and who can apply to put the fixture back. The FA, the home team , the away team or both?

Anyone can apply but the Premier league would make the final decision.

Seems Watford should have their fixture moved to Wednesday like the rest, unless they have written the arsenal game off, opting for an extra days rest before they play us?

Just curious if they could of had it taken out of their hands.

Watford are away at Arsenal on Tuesday - who play Chelsea next Sat lunch - Arsenal will have put a block on any fixture change especially with Chelsea playing on Tuesday

Utd are at home to Hull on Wed before playing Leicester on Sunday

The one thing you can do in the Premier League is having a Tuesday game moved to Wednesday if you are required to play on a Sunday which is why West Ham moved our game recently. Other than that, fixture moves must be ratified by the Premier League. Not sure where all that stands when the FA Cup comes in.

So it's the home sides choice?

I thought both teams had to agree

Just purely thinking from a selfish Burnley point if view.

Would be interested to see if Watford were asked or if they preferred an extra days rest after Arsenal, rather than before.

The fact arsenal played on Saturday means they dont have the option to switch.

Watford as the team playing on a Sunday get the choice to move their game back but their manager has stated that he wants an extra days rest before they play us.

Cheers Billy, that's all the answers I needed.
Makes sense now, brave decision by the manager, but could backfire massively.

Mazzari has, as billyhamilton82 posted, opted to keep the game on Tuesday because he is prioritising the game against us

I'm going off on a bit of a tangent here but who the hell thought it a good idea to give some teams a match on the last day of the transfer window, a day when most deals are usually done and negotiations go on right up to the deadline?.
