Drone outside the Turf
Someone was flying a drone yesterday before the match - outside the club shop and above the program seller.
The CAA drone code insists that flights must be at least 50m from people or property- thus was clearly breached and in full view of Police and Club officials.
A drone diving into a crowd is capable of causing significant injury. I wonder if anyone knows anything about this?

Is that true about the 50 metres? If so, the Dad and his kids I saw on Trawden rec today are in trouble. ' higher, higher ! ' CRASH.KeighleyClaret wrote:Someone was flying a drone yesterday before the match - outside the club shop and above the program seller.

Unless the rules have changed, it's 50m from a person, vehicle, building or structure.

I can't believe that these things are allowed. Accidents waiting to happen. Also don't understand why an insurance company would provide cover.
If you have one I hope you loose your house and all your money if you hurt anyone.

Don't see how they are any different to radio controlled planes that fly at high speeds and are potentially far more lethal.summitclaret wrote:I can't believe that these things are allowed. Accidents waiting to happen. Also don't understand why an insurance company would provide cover.

But these things are going to be used on our streets not on leased land with nobody around.

Saw the lad and his father stood on Stroyan St just of Brunshaw Rd with the controller for it. They were on Lyndhurst Rd the day before flying it low above the road.
I do not have a problem with them, but only if they are used sensibly and with permission to fly in the areas they are in.

Re: Drone outside the Turf
As a pilot of radio control planes I can tell you that here in Ireland all models, including drones, over 1Kg in weight need to be registered with the Irish Aviation Authority and a re subject to a number of laws that would preclude them from flying in public areas, unless previously agreed and the pilot as a specific licence to operate in public areas. A quick check of the BMFA rule book shows that in the UK drones should not be flown within 150 m of a public assembly of more than 1000 people or within 50m of any vehicle. As previously stated these aircraft can be very dangerous in the wrong hands. I have planes that weigh around 8lb and travel up to 90 m.p.h.

Re: Drone outside the Turf
Its 150 feet (not metres) Clontyduffy. See http://dronesafe.uk/drone-code/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. The Dronecode says you must fly more than 50m away from people or buildings.
Certainly it was way too close to a large crowd 20 mins before kickoff. And certainly way too close to the ground - though that was less of a worry. The problem is that idiots like this bring Drone flying into disrepute and it negatively affects those who fly responsibly.

I took this picture as it flew by me and then hovered around 10 feet above the top of the club shop height, right in the middle of the road.

And an attempt to zoom in for you

Re: Drone outside the Turf
Looks like a DJI Phantom. They're becoming more accessible as older models are still on sale at lower prices.
Most don't have obstacle avoidance so if they connect with anything, that tends to be the end of them pretty quickly.
Luckily , for those below, they don't have that many occurrences of dropping out of the sky like the GoPro variant but still I wouldn't like one to hit me at any kind of speed.
