Footy club nicknamed The Imps after a stone sculpture of one such on the cathedral. Legend is that a real imp was sent to Lincoln to do mischief but was turned into stone by an angel.
Seems a plausible story- I'm sure Lincolnshire was full of imps and angels back in times of yore.

Lincoln once had a player named Willie Gamble, who came on as sub in a 4th division game at the Turf when they pasted us 4-1(?). B****rds! Willie got a massive cheer from the Clarets fans when his name was announced. Think it was around 1989? :D

There is a silent "L" in Lincoln, and therefore it should be pronounced Incoln.

We played them away in the mid 70's , might have been a cup game. One of their guys fought one of our top guys and wiped the floor with him on a village green outside a pub. Afterwards, he thanked our prostrate hero, as he told us that no one else down there would fight him!

Another of our supporters who was never involved in any trouble was hospitalised after the game when around 10 of theirs jumped him.

We aren't looking for revenge now we are all in our sixties!

Lincoln was formed after invading hordes from the North en route to a race meet at Market Rasen stopped for a pint in the locality. After becoming disorientated due to the lack of a hill of any note they decided to return home, but not before naming the place after their home town "Colne"

Fittingly for a city which started out as a fortress, Lincoln’s contribution to modern warfare was the invention of the tank. Built by William Foster & Co during World War One, the very first tanks were tested on the area now occupied by Tritton Road.

They were one of the first teams to buy players from abroad. In the 1930's their midfield boasted;
Rich Beef Stew (American box to boxer)
Fanny Pantilinenen
Heinz Big Soup (German enforcer)
Gay Abandon

The first police woman in Britain to be given powers of arrest was Edith Smith who patrolled the streets of Grantham over 100 years ago.
