Played like lions. Head down Jeff. Substitute tactics?
Three take-always for me. We deserved something from that. Utter buffoonery from Hendrick, and once again questionable tactical reaction from SD
Oh..... and the fans were utterly brilliant
And our new signings look good too

What was questionable about Dyche today?

Lot of positives in that game. Miles the better side the second half and Brady looks like he has some quality

Horrible challenge and we've lost as a result of that. Played well second half and Brady looks like he'll be a good un.

We would have won that without the sending off.

Waiting for 2-0 before changing it he might mean. When down to 10 men you shut up shop, put square pegs in square holes. We looked all over the place.Sidney1st wrote:What was questionable about Dyche today?
Think our best available players will start next game though. Dyche was only being loyal, they blew it.

Hugely frustrating. Another "but for" afternoon on the road.
We're in a good position which we'd have all taken pre-season, but we have to start converting glorious failures on the road into points. West Ham, Spurs, City, Arsenal and today - all defeats by the odd goal, all defeats where we can point to moments of misfortune or daftness which have cost us the game.

Slow to react again - square pegs round holes is exactly what I meant. I can take one down, almost take two down on a strategy to figuring it out at half time, but to come out for the 2nd half with no change is questionable in my mind.MACCA wrote:Waiting for 2-0 before changing it he might mean. But of the three points on the OP, it's 3rd of 3

I was a bit surprised Westwood didn't come on sooner.
How did he look?

Came on too late to really judge but looked OK.
I think the 'waiting for 2-0' comment is harsh. That 2nd goal is down to player error. Good cross and finish but a free header and right at the death of the half.
We reacted well and looked far better. Hendrick's just lost his head a bit and dived in when he should have held off.

Think criticising Dyche is harsh. I don't think you can argue with the principle of keeping the pace of Gray on the pitch (even if it meant him or Barnes playing wide), and keeping Arfield on - not least because he has a goal in him and the sort of stamina you badly need when you are down to 10 men.
There's always a clamour to change things on these occasions, but I'm not sure you can definitely say it would have made much difference. At the end of the day, whatever he did, he'd have been sending 10 men out to play 11, and usually the 11 will win, especially at home, especially when they're probably a better side man for man. Our strength is in the collective, and that inevitably takes a particularly big hit when you are down to 10.

We came very close to getting a point. Nothing wrong with the subs or there timing.
We had 10. Make early changes and you are an injury away from being 9.

Re: Played like lions. Head down Jeff. Substitute tactics?
Dyche played it very safe as always. We needed to keep the ball more than we did first half. We had better footballers who could on the bench and so it proved. Gray was as poor as I have seen him.
The midfield run their socks off but their weren't many positives for me.
Maybe Brady,oh and Barnes proving he should be the regular penalty taker.

Re: Played like lions. Head down Jeff. Substitute tactics?
I liked the way dyche reacted in the 2nd half , Barnes became the lone striker as Gray struggled up top on his own, gray then Brady wide and also 'losing' a defender to create the extra man towards the end.
Re: Played like lions. Head down Jeff. Substitute tactics?
Be very surprised if Brady doesn't replace Arfield as a starter and with the injuries we have
then Westwood will also start. Tarks possibly also.
Agree that Dyche played it too safe today to begin with and possibly brought Vokes on earlier
to help out Gray or nod one in from a Brady cross.

Re: Played like lions. Head down Jeff. Substitute tactics?
Gray was put if it. However, he is the one most likely and so you give him that opportunity. Not today Gray. So Brady and then a tiring Arfield is replaced followed by a tired Boyd but also when it was all or nothing and we needed to support the front. No issues for me. Spot on.
