Albufeira
Thinking of a week away and the flights to Faro are reasonable for dates we have. Anyone been to Albufeira? Just gonna sort own hotel/transfer and have a fairly relaxed time, maybe a round of golf and a couple of nights on the town. Hotel recommendations and any insights into the wider area really appreciated.
Re: Albufeira
A relative of mine speaks highly of the place.

Re: Albufeira
Went golfing with 'the lads' twice but it's a few years ago so I wouldn't like to recommend hotels.
Lovely place and old town, plenty bars and eating places.
We stayed in a hotel up quite a steep hill from the centre so knowing that you are getting on a bit you may want to seek somewhere a little closer
The golf courses were fantastic.

Re: Albufeira
Went last weekend for one of my pals birthdays. Great place, great night-life. Good pubs and weather was fantastic for end of January.
Stayed at Jardim apartments (all inclusive) cheap as chips (which were on the menu ever night).
Quick stroll into local area, and a 15 minute walk into main strip.
Didnt do anything but drink.

Ask my fellow clarets for help and get told I'm long in the tooth. Hate to admit that it's probably sound advice, thanks ty.

Shitehole. Lagos is loads better but quiet at this time of year, so Albufeira would probably be better for you. I can't stand the place, though. Chav central.

As stag-do destinations go, its alright. Great beach, old town with a bit of character and history.
But - it is still fundamentally and foremost a stag-do destination.

Went down the road to Vilamoura a couple of years ago and it was a bit weird and soulless.
The Aquashow waterpark was great fun though.

Re: Albufeira
It's an alright place to go.
I don't know much about the old town but in the new town there are some decent places to eat, some alright bars and pubs to go in - notably the Cockrel (cheap as and great food), Ancora, Costa Rica and Nosolo Italia, O Leao. The beach at the bottom of the strip is nice too - Praia da Ora with a decent bar there and one can even find Dim Sum to eat on the beach.
If you stay near the top half of the strip, it's generally fine and a lot quieter than the bottom.
As far as transfers go - use Yellow Fish taxis - book online, they're decent enough and it's quite a long trip so you want a nice ride.

Smells of chip fat but does have a good nightlife. Vilamoura good for golf. Lagos is nice and relaxed.

Re: Albufeira
Bit surprised by some of the comments on here.
I've done all the usual stag do and party spots in Europe and and also stayed in albufeira. I'll be honest I wouldn't have bracketed albufeira in with the others but each to their own I suppose.
