Lower back pain
The sciatica has kicked in with a vengeance today .... Need your best tips for a quick relief as don't want to be missing the game tomorrow hopefully.
I'm managing to get about but with a lot of pain and awkward movements.

Re: Lower back pain
Lie on your back in front of the telly.
Couple of cushions under your head to view.
Draw your legs up so they bend at the knee, hold them there. It rotates your hips. Sometimes works.

Re: Lower back pain
Good tip I've used. Stand up against a wall. Heels together, backside, back, head and shoulder blades flat against the wall. Without moving your head try to look down. Sounds odd, but you should feel the muscles in your lower back stretching. Repeat but don't over do it

Hot bath, then cold bath, then hot bath again. Bad backs are the worst!

Re: Lower back pain
After following the sound advice above, get a tube of Volterol (sp) and rub it in until it is warm. It targets the area directly.

I also use a belt I got from the Osteopath. It is about 4" wide and has a Velcro fastening at the front like a normal belt and an elasticated strap either side that you pull around from the rear and fasten with Velcro. It helps keep everything in line when I have a flare up.

Re: Lower back pain
If it is sciatica, then you have my utmost sympathy. The pain last time for me was excruciating
and it's the only time I have been physically sick through pain.
Unfortunately, no amount of cream will have effect as it is as a result of a trapped nerve.
The only cure is by way of stretching and exercising to basically "untrap" the nerve. I found that
drawing my knees up as far as I could. by whatever means was the only thing that worked. I found
the best and easiest way to do this was to stand at the foot of the stairs, with my foot on the
second step, and then leaning forward and basically getting my chest as near to my knee as possible.
The relief was total, if only temporary.
It took nearly 4 weeks to even start to ease on a permanent basis. I have to confess that I became
so desperate that I resorted to the Jamaican mountain cabbage which helped enormously. Not had
that since my college days in the late sixties.
I wish you all the best in your recovery.

Yes I'm on but having recently moved back to the area, I don't know where amongst all my stuff it is at the moment
Worth googling if you have regular problems, there are several types and not overly expensive.

Will definitely give it a google, it pops up every few months but a few stretches sort it out and it's usually minor. Today my backs just locked up and i've been immobile and in excrutiating pain at times. Wouldnt wish it on anyone.

Re: Lower back pain
Hope all that is of some help - it does pay to exercise and keep moving.
When you go to bed, if you can actually stand being still for any length
of time, then try and lie curled up in the foetal position if you can.
Good luck, it's bloody horrible.

I perfected the art of falling out of bed, without hurting myself too much ! !

Chin up fellow claret.
PS Keep your socks on, so that you have something to grab when trying to move your leg.

Re: Lower back pain
All of the above good advice. Let me add, for a short term relief, 800 mg of Iboprofen taken a couple of hours before the match. There are also one a day tablets, like Advil which are enteric coated and maybe easier on the stomach.
Try to walk straight up, with a good posture briskly - one of the worst things is to walk as if you're browsing the shops with the wife, slowly. It's the most antagonizing thing possible for a L5 entrapment.
The long term solution is physical therapy with well known exercises for this kind of problem.
Hope Dr. Maidenover has been of help.....

Re: Lower back pain
Managed to book in for a massage which usually sorts me out and will hopefully loosen the tension. Im up and already stretching now and can walk at least - should be fine with some painkillers to get through the day and see us get 3 points.maidenover wrote:All of the above good advice. Re: Lower back pain
I have been plagued with a bad back and neck muscles since my 30s, only once had a day off work go to a decent Osteopath Avenue Parade Accy, he may treat you and give you stretching excercises, you will have to pay obviously, or carry on in pain. The choice is yours!

I've just had 5 days of strife. It feels like it will never end but stick with it and follow the stretching instructions and you'll be reet

Red Tiger Balm
Take a large scoop and insert fully and enthusiastically into your anus. While this won't help the sciatica it will certainly take your mind off it for a while.
