Re: FA CUP
The quarter final should be ours, depends on the draw with the likelihood of 7 other premier league teams in there I think a home tie is critical.
Was 1983 the last time we got to the 6th round? Went to both games against Sheffield Weds. What an anti-climax the replay was...Of course in those days we were just a division 2 side, so I think this time, should we be in the draw for the quarters I'll be getting a tingle of excitement. Been my dream since I was a kid, Burnley lifting the FA Cup.

We got to the quarter final and played Watford away in 2003 I think. I remember listening to the draw at school and thinking it was our year when we drew Watford

Re: FA CUP
Actually it's easy to fall into the FA cup not being worth anything anymore mentality... concentrate on the league.
Then you get into the last 16 and start thinking......

Didn't Stan leave Little and Blake on the bench until it was too late?

Re: FA CUP
With this team and our manager I really don't have a fear that a cup run will distract us from the league. The mentality is just too strong.
"One game at a time" as we keep hearing.

Yes, I seem to remember that.Spijed wrote:Didn't Stan leave Little and Blake on the bench until it was too late?
We just didn't look vaguely up for it. Strange because we had a real chance of beating Watford.

Re: FA CUP
So, team for next week? I gather Brady is cup-tied and with Defour, Marney, and Hendrick unavailable do we think it will be an otherwise full-strength team? I'm assuming Westwood can play seeing as he was an unused sub in the 3rd round for Villa.

Pope,
Darikwa, Tarkowski, Mee, Flanagan,
Gudmondsson, Barton, Arfield, Boyd,
Gray, Vokes
Not too bad a side really.

Re: FA CUP
That looks about right to me with maybe Westwood for Arfield? Should be strong enough to beat a non-league side!boatshed bill wrote:Pope,

Re: FA CUP
We don't underestimate them, we play a damn near full strength side and, seriously, set about winning the cup. We need to beat Lincoln and we need a home draw after that. Then the job's a good 'un.

Re: FA CUP
We have to stick with the same 'cup' side
They've earned that.
And it's not under strength either in my opinion

Same starting 11 as today for me, a place in the quarter finals is at stake.

Their manager was in the Bob Lord today, not sure he went away feeling postive

Maybe Westwood for Boyd? Give Arfield the 90 and Boyd a rest.chekhov wrote:That looks about right to me with maybe Westwood for Arfield? Should be strong enough to beat a non-league side!

Re: FA CUP
With Hendrick and Marney definitely out and probably Defour, we need to ensure we have enough for the vital Hull game. But at the same time play a system and a team that should have too much for Lincoln. You would like to think we could do both.Acting Claret wrote:Same starting 11 as today for me, a place in the quarter finals is at stake.
Its a bit of a tough one.
I would go:
Pope
Darikwa Keane Tarkowski Flanagan
JBG Arfield Barton Westwood Boyd
Vokes

Re: FA CUP
Don't think our away form was great in 2003 either. I always thought Stan set up for a replay in that Watford game - no plan b when we went behind.
