Table with 13 games to go
I don't think many of us would have predicted this when the season started

Re: Table with 13 games to go
Just noticed that the first positive goal difference is at eighth position, West Brom, and even then it's only 3.

Re: Table with 13 games to go
The top five have just got ridiculous goal differences - and our goal difference against them in total is just minus 6 and three of those were at Chelsea.

Just need to keep it going. Just over a point per game will see us finish comfortably away from the scramble!!!

Re: Table with 13 games to go
A minimum of 3 pts from the games at Hull, Swansea & Sunderland. 3 draws would be far better than one win and two losses. In saying that, 3 wins would be marvellous. UTC.

The overall season trend would see us on 45 points, and Hull on 31. I think we might finish around 42 points and 3rd bottom around 34. There's always one who picks up a bit of form.

Why do we not see league tables with home and away results separate anymore?

Not very scientific though, it has us losing every away game and winning every home game !Falcon wrote:Remember this website? The 'predicted' final table puts us 9th

Re: Table with 13 games to go
I think most of us though that finishing 17th was something we'd be happy with. For me it still is but staying 3-6 places above that would ease the heart-rate over the last couple of rounds of matches.
From the last 6 games' form shown in colours in Claretforever's table, Leicester, Bournemouth and (slightly less) Boro all seem in danger from a surge by one or two of the current bottom 3. One point from 6 games for Foxes, two points from 6 games for Cherries.

If we finished 12th as opposed to 17th we could have an extra 6m in the transfer kitty for next year.
To put into context it's more than we bring in with ST sales.

1 more win and we're home, given the inevitable draw or two we will pick up

£2M per place, would be an extra £10M, we could finish as high as ninth, an extra £6M on top !Quickenthetempo wrote:If we finished 12th as opposed to 17th we could have an extra 6m in the transfer kitty for next year.

Re: Table with 13 games to go
QtT - agreed. The "league position" payout is £2 million per place I think (£2 bottom, going up to £40 million top), As you say, a relatively huge amount v gate receipts (though only part of overall TV monies pot)- so well worth scrapping for every extra place.
I presume the players will be getting a slice of each "extra" £2 million via their bonus packages.

The bonus system has worked brilliant at Burnley recently (I don't know how long we have had it) so let them fill their boots.

Well there have certainly been substantial bonuses paid on each of our three promotions to the Premier League. Players and staff are handsomely rewarded for success and the whole wage structure appears to be very much incentive driven giving us perhaps an insight as to how were able to attract the likes of Robbie Brady who was likely to have been earning a higher basic salary at Norwich.
After promotion in '08/'09 promotion bonuses were in excess of £4m and that figure increased to almost £8m in '13/'14. We are still to learn the extent of the bonuses paid as a result of the '15/'16 promotion but they are unlikely to be less than £10m.
As for our current league position it's remarkable to see us in 12th position and no doubt there will be significant bonuses again if we can maintain our PL status for another season.

Re: Table with 13 games to go
We probably have to pay "substantial bonuses" as you put it as every club in this division has a wage bill at least double ours. That was the claim earlier this season. Perhaps performance related bonuses work better than just paying stupid money regardless like a lot of other clubs.

We've not been badly treated by tv but the higher the finish the better chance of being on even more next year.

A nice feeling to see that table and as a nostalgic I hope it is not too far away from being a table where we can then go all out to try to win the FA Cup. After all, beat Lincoln, get a home draw and we can go all the way without having to play away, so we must have a fair chance.

Or even worse, paying stupid money regardless (wage wise) even if you get relegated.
Rather like those dummies down the motorway.

Absolutely.......and if there is a blueprint for the ideal policy regarding wages then Burnley are the club to copy.
It's extraordinary to think we can not only compete with other clubs paying at least twice that of Burnley but we have the potential of finishing the season ahead of at least seven or eight. Next season, if things go according to plan, another small step in terms of an increase in basic salaries coupled with incentive bonuses and we continue to run the club in a way that should be the envy of all others.

Re: Table with 13 games to go
Royboy, with regards to league placings and prize money/income how will it be taxed?
Is the PL money classed as normal income?
And if we finish higher up in the league (£2 million for each additional place) is that also normal income or is it prize money?
Can we offset any of it to reduce our tax bill?

It'll all be taxable income.

Re: Table with 13 games to go
Spijed, probably the best comparison is to look at the last set of accounts to Jun'15.
Turnover/Total Income was £79.4m of which some £65m was TV money including all prize money for placings etc. Based on that we made on operating profit of just over £35m on which the tax charge was £4.5m reducing the net profit to £30m.
The next set of accounts to Jun'16 will likely show close to a break-even situation so no concerns as regards the tax calculation but the year we are currently in will be completely different again. Income will reach the astronomical figure for us exceeding £130m if we were to finish 10th. Based on that, and a slowly increasing wage bill, a gross profit of some £55m/£60m should be achievable. Then we'd face a tax bill of say £10m leaving a net profit of £45m/£50m.
Hope this helps.

That website basically predicts home wins. According to the results, none of the 14 teams outside the top 6 will win a single away game for the rest of the season.Falcon wrote:Remember this website? The 'predicted' final table puts us 9th

Though I note that the 8 teams below us have an average of less than 2 away wins apiece. Our zero wins sounds abysmal, but isn't all that far behind our relegation 'rivals'.
