Jordan Rhodes, in his bestest, neatest handwriting ...

Post by claptrappers_union » Thu Feb 16, 2017 11:43 pm

Wrote a letter back to an 8 year old Middlesbrough fan who was sad to see him go.

Its a nice read, top bloke.

Rhodes' note read:
Dear Oliver, Thank you for your letter and writing to me. It made me smile at a time when I was quite sad at Middlesbrough.

"I was quite frustrated at not being able to play or even being on the bench sometimes. So like you did I have had to change teams sadly. I would love to hear how you are doing at Riverside Juniors and hope you have scored some goals.

"I really loved playing for Middlesbrough and living in the area too. I hope you continue to enjoy your football as well as working very hard at school and one day I hope to see you playing number 9 for Boro.

"P.S. I hope your brother is ok too as I remember you both from training."

I was quite impressed with that when I saw it in the news.

If that's a dig at his handwriting, it's par for the course - so much writing is done on computer that many people (me included) don't do joined-up writing any more. If you don't practice, you lose the knack.

My handwriting is shockingly bad.

I always thought Rhodes came across as a decent fella in all interviews. Good on him for sending the letter and the 'far more important' signed Match Attax card. His handwriting is far better than mine - I write in joined up capitals and never finish a word.

Shame he spent far too long at Blackburn and then Boro - I would have him at Burnley in a flash as 4th choice striker / poacher

Fair play to him! I can't remember the last time I wrote a letter by hand!

Grant Hanley would have written his reply in crayon.

Grant Hanley's not allowed crayons because he eats them.

Well done Jordan Rhodes for making a little boy happy!

I've no idea who physically wrote that letter but from my experience as a teacher the script is feminine rather than masculine. Does it matter? Of course not.

As the OP, can I just point out that was I wasn't suggesting anything about his handwriting or to question if he actually wrote it or not. The thread topic was just a stereotypical jab at footballers in general, with a story about what a good bloke he is when you open the link.

I have almost lost the ability due to ageing and ailments and wish I could still use my fountain pen and write in a legible fashion.

Don't forget he was writing to an eight year old who may not be yet used to 'double writing'. Rhodes presumably made an effort to make it legible for him.

Does anyone else get that unexplained twitch when they're writing these days?

It's like your brain has made your hand go looking for one of the keys.

I HAVE GOT A PEN IN MY HAND BRAIN! I don't need to go looking for the letter C.
