The Payers Control

Post by warksclaret » Sat Feb 18, 2017 5:58 pm

One thing that stood out today was how poor our first time touch was -in particular Arfield & Gray. You expect better in the PL

Keane hit a super long pass to Scotty-right on his foot but he lost control when he could have been through. Same applied to Gray on several occasions . I wonder how many goals we would score with someone like Defoe In the team

Flanagan showed some class in this department - he stood out for me when he took a throw in and got it laid back to him and controlled it perfectly to give them a throw in .......

It was the kind of stuff you berate a Sunday League player for.

Darikwa showed the best ability to do this basic requirement today.

How does that answer the OP's query of how many goals would we have if defoe played for us?

Why compare Gray to somebody who as perfected their art over about 16 seasons at the highest level.

I think it's a good answer to the question about the payers control.

They get themselves set, as in backside into the defender, then with feet (both) planted in the turf, they watch the ball come out the sky and still with feet (both) flat to the floor let it bounce of their toes!

Bastardingly frustrating.

Very poor by a number of players who wouldn't get near another Premier League team. Considering how much we are paying them you expect them to be able to do the basics.

Equally you could say the same about the England team that capitulated against Iceland - or indeed on several previous occasions - and they are getting top dollar.

I don't think you could say that the England team have a poor first touch.

How many of the teams below us have players that are better than ours. A few players maybe, but not that many.

It's the reason we are currently in 12th and looking odds on to stay up. Hard work alone won't bring that much success in the PL as we found out two years ago.
