Outhought, outfought and outwitted

Post by ablueclaret » Sat Feb 18, 2017 10:27 pm

There are days when the SD way appears mundane and predictable this was such a one.
For me this was the day to keep that defence together, fortify midfield, give the opposition something different to think about and keep Gray and Barnes in the wings for an assault in the second half. Instead we saw the problem of lack of creativity and the inability to get round a defence, we even saw the loss of cool something quite out of keeping with SD 's reign. Today was the day for Mee's cool head at the back and Ward and Lowtons efficiency, for Tarka providing that extra bite in midfield. What we got was bland and predictable and SD will have his work cut out to raise our game in the important next match.
A sad day and an opportunity spurned.

End of the day they had one great chance early doors and one shot on target. We'd several good chances and had an off day in front of goal.
Let's not forget what a great season we're having

It didn't click for us today no point throwing our toys out of the pram.

Let's put this one down to experience and get on with the rest of the season.

Arrogant; complacent; and uninterested.

Hats off to Lincoln - they "out Burnley'd" Burnley

Their gameplan involved harrying; cajoling and irritating our players at every opportunity and we fell for it and we lost our heads - especially Joey

nothing of the sort, dyche was apathetic, he wentthrough the motions of acting like a concerned manager, in reality there is league issues to deal with.

Our hardwork, long ball, defensive structure is well suited against better teams where they dominate possession but against the weaker teams where we have the majority of the ball, we look absolutely clueless. We don't know what to do with possession, that's the problem. We've been playing the long ball back to front direct game for so long, used to defending in numbers and the players have completely forgot how to open up a defence when the shoe is on the other foot.

Deserves a lot more respect this lad, always talks sense. Don't agree with some of his views regarding dyche, but he knows his football.

Quick cars in their day but just like anything time moves on . Yesterday's Saxo vts is now a ford fiesta 1.0 ecoboost . And in regards to performance belongs in comparison to league one, as per ,Rovers.

I don't have any particular feelings for the car, it was just a name I came up with at the time and have stuck with.

Typical of ablue's thinking. A triptych with very little meaning.

Edgar, Eckersley, Eckerslike.

McDonald, McInnes, McDonalds Drive Thru

etc etc

I'm glad some one started a thread highlighting our short comings yesterday.

Woke up feeling flat, same feeling as the drive home yesterday.

Burnley had a taste of their own medicine, we were bullied and Dyche was outwitted by a club who wanted it more.

I think Joey Barton should apologise for his behaviour yesterday and Dyche should apologise for failing to control his team. Scrapping with non league players was the most embarrassing thing I've seen as a Burnley fan.

Tendai Darikwa won't play for Burnley again, unless there is an massive injury crisis, he had an opportunity to demonstrate his ability within this team, but showed he isn't good enough.

Lincoln deserved it yesterday. Best of luck to them.

Not sure I'd blame the players for being set-up in a vulnerable system.Darikwa was by no means the most ineffective player in fact he dealt with two awkward defensive situations well. The problem was in midfield where we couldn't string a series of passes together because we are always looking for the early ball, the lack of any penetration on the wings and of course losing our composure. The fact is SD got this horribly wrong and was outwitted by the opposition, when the only bit of class came from Tarka laying off a ball to Arfield to blaze over you know just how much we were struggling.
The sad thing is it was a match we should have won if we'd played our 1st team defence and it would have given us momentum into the difficult but vital series of matches we are running into. Cup exits, particularly unexpected ones, have a nasty history of deflating sides, our next match will be crucial.

Problem was a complete lack of width caused by two poor full backs who spent most of their time sat too deep and playing balls backwards and inside. When Darikwa did get forward on the right and used his pace then he caused them problems. On the left we had Flanagan and Arfield for most of the game, both of whom are predominantly right footed and so this gave us no width down the side at all. Should have brought Ward on for Flanagan and told him to push forward and get some crosses in. We did eventually swap Boyd onto the left, but he was having a shocker too so didn't affect the game.

Flanagan was dire, should have been hooked at half time, playing a right footer at left back doesn't work, offers no balance, i agree with others that we struggle when we are favourites, we tried to out long ball a non league team and we allowed them to drag us down to their level.

Same could be said about almost all of that team yesterday, Arfield, Boyd, Gray,Vokes all players who should have been head and shoulders above the opposition.
Said it on another thread the vast majority of our players are top end/mid championship players, they have been brilliant to get this club where it is at the moment but have to be up for it ever game and yesterday showed how average they can be when not.
