Challenge for the rest of the season
Is to put yesterday behind us and not to create a blame culture.
When we lost to Wimbledon the season fell apart and we were relegated the following season. It was a slide that culminated in the Orient game.
Lincoln played us at our own game and it worked for them. We must re group and finish as high as possible and maintain that unity that has got us where we are.
Players such as Flanagan and Darwika must feel they will never play for Burnley again. Boyd and Arfirld may think their days are numbered. These feelings could create a rift in the group.
Big test of Dyches ability to manage the group. We need to take it on the chin and get behind the lads at Hull and for every game now

If I understand that sentence properly it is incorrect. We beat Livepool a few days BEFORE losing to Accy. Only Burnley eh?jdrobbo wrote:I keep teller big myself that a few days after losing to Accy we beat Liverpool 2-0...
I think the OP has a point and I feel Hull is now a massive game. Lose and we are in danger of getting really down on ourselves. Get a result and we can start to put yesterday behind us. UTC
Re: Challenge for the rest of the season
Have to agree with Down_Rover in terms of the challenge remaining.
Can we step up to it?
Well, time will tell. A decent result and performance at Hull on Saturday will put to bed
the extreme disappointment of yesterday's result and performance.
However Hull will feel even more confident they can beat us and we will start that game less confident
and possibly even fearful and/or playing not to lose.
A loss and poor performance at Hull could well mean future losses at Swansea, Liverpool and Sunderland.
We have to weather the next four away games and hope that we can play our way out of a
possible poor run of results that casts doubt on our survival hopes.
There is hope in the sense that we will have both Hendrick and Defour back after Hull
(possibly Defour might be fit for the Hull game) and Brady will presumably start at Hull.
Ward and Lowton will also start for that game and those following.
I'm sure Dyche and the players realise how important the next four away games are
and will step up to the mark.

If anything, I think it's the "1 game at a time" mentality more than ever. Avoid defeat next weekend and things will start to look rosier.

I don't know about within the squad, but there's always been a blame culture on here and CM

Re: Challenge for the rest of the season
How strong would the criticism have been if we had scored just one of our chances at the end ? The rest of the play would have been the same but the result different? I know this is an "If only" scenario but maybe our reactions would have been more measured. Our collective reaction has been rather over the top and disappointment and frustration is a sore we seem to like scratching ! Lincoln were lucky - yes they stuck to their plan but overall the plan did not work , it wasn't a world class goal just a lucky header at the wrong time in the match for us.
Our side was changed, we lost a creative input early on , some of the players were not at the top of their game , BUT it was a cup-tie and they are like that - we are not the first Prem side to suffer, some were out in earlier rounds, others in this round, they will have got over it and we must will lick our wounds and prepare again, to cause some more upsets ourselves.

Re: Challenge for the rest of the season
It's a one off cup game. As crap as we were, and as embarrassing as it is, perhaps it's the kick up the backside the players need right now so as to maintain our recent performances and get us to the end of the season as a PL club.
Most season shave a defining moment, and if this is the one which has the players realising they aren't the finished article then so be it. A one off cup loss to Lincoln wouldn't be as bad, in my eyes, as Leiecteser, for example, being Champions one season, then potentially sliding out the next, whilst also being beaten by a third tier club who had 10 men for half a game.

Re: Challenge for the rest of the season
There is a blame culture on CM but that, no doubt, is the same on most fan sites
and not necessarily peculiar to Burnley fans although Burnley fans are known for being critical
and getting on players backs if they start making mistakes. More so at home. Less so away.
We attract some moaners for sure but then football always has.
I'm not sure that has been the case as much this season but that's probably due to the fact
that we've have some pretty good results at home this season.
Well beyond what we could have expected and left most fans leaving games
with a smile on their faces and fairly contented.
What drives that for many folk is a fear culture. A fear that the team will suddenly collapse.
That disappointment and sadness at knowing your team is struggling.
And no longer 'punching above its weight'.
Fear, disappointment and sadness does inevitably lead some to blame.
Fans are only human after all.

We went joint top of the league a month after that defeat and the sale of our best player was a major factor in our relegation the following season.Down_Rover wrote:Is to put yesterday behind us and not to create a blame culture.

Yesterday due to injuries, suspension and a cup-tied player the team was missing 6 players who would normally start, so people should calm down a little if they think this result will impact our season.

That's football no two games are the same .
So if anyone thinks our whole season in now on the rocks on the back of one result better talk to Mr Dyche as i think he will have a different message on Monday morning to the players .
