Literally had no money?
I haven't.
What did you do? How did you cope?

Yes. As a student, at times I would eat maybe every 3 or 4 days. But I was happy. I was young (and thin), talented and optimistic.

Thank God for supermarket deliveries. I can send my youngest off to uni this year knowing I can feed him at least....

Mid 70s, when interest went to 17% we were stony. Living on packet soup and toast.
we were going to a bring a bottle party and had to pawn a sewing machine to buy a bottle.
We never redeemed it.

Live to your means.
We went through a period of about 6mths only having one wage.
We knew what bills we had to pay each month so left that in the account and withdrew the remaining at the start of the month.
Split that into 4/5 separate envelopes for each week in that month and lived of that.
Any remaining we carried over to next week.
It makes you think about what you actually need

Having no money is strange way of looking at things... I'm a white male living in the U.K. - I'll always be ok, but i can always borrow money off family if need be - if absolutely desperate.
But a few years ago, business wasn't great (on reflection) partner couldn't find work, we couldn't afford the house rent, bills, gas, petrol for the car and it was embarrassing when friends wanted you to go out or come round to ours as paying for food, drinks was difficult.
But strangely, I think having children partly changed that. I'm now much more focused with money, time and commitments and we are financially better off. Its nowt to do with Child Benefits or anything and I can't afford a holiday willy-nilly or other luxurys, but life (in the sense of getting by) is easier now.
