Burnley History & Photos

Post by AndrewJB » Tue Mar 07, 2017 1:58 pm

Not sure if this has been posted before, but for anyone on 'The Book of Faces' there is an excellent page called 'Burnley Lancashire Now and Then' I'd recommend it to anyone interested in history, reminiscing, and photos of the town and surrounding area. Does anyone know of other sites they'd recommend?

Here's another good site for Burnley in the 1960s and 70s

A real timepiece.

There is also 'BURNLEY PAST AND PRESENT' group with many old photos and a 'Lowerhouse and Rosegrove, back in't day' group with many pics of that side of town.

The Red Rose Collection has all the old images that we used to put on Lancashire Lantern. Lots of the images of the Facebook group come from on there

Hell, I had thought Rona's jewellers...didn't know the name, was a dream. But there it is.

"Lancashire Lantern" That's the one I've been trying to think of since I first saw this thread.
Had it saved on my old laptop I got rid of..not been on the site since.
Cheers fellow :)

Anyone ever frequent this pub ?

I am led to believe it was severely damaged by fire, never to be a pub again.
Anyone know what year that was ?

1.25 Three quarters of those buildings have been demolished.Remember the Church spire in the middle as a good meeting point, apparently it was left because of the outrage of knocking a Church down. Then the council said it's only a spire when building the new car park, very sad to see the demise of the town.Great photo though. :)
