The worst owners of Football Clubs
Following on from the recent discussions about Leyton Orient (lost 3 - 0) today, the only slightly amusing situation with the Chicken farmers (would dread to think of it happening to us) and the continuing shenanigans at Coventry - the Guardian has come up with a list of the worst owners in English football
https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... ton-orient" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
can't believe how lucky Liverpool have been in comparison to the others - the Man Utd crew don't even get a mention but they along with Real Madrid and even Barcelona, Bayern and Juventus have changed the game beyond recognition forcing others who have joined the party late to spend obscene amounts - Step forward Chelsea, Man City, PSG, China et al
So who do you think are the worst - talking owners here not FA, UEFA, FIFA or such like - that is a different thread

Re: The worst owners of Football Clubs
Why would Glazers get a mention?
The club was still winning trophies under Fergie, regardless of the debt they saddled the club with.
The yellow and green scarf brigade have been quiet for a while now haven't they?
Bizarre how they chucked Risdale onto the list.

Re: The worst owners of Football Clubs
Venky's poor owners? What, because they haven't bankrolled t'Rovers like Jack and the family did for 20 years?
They took over a club £21m (£26m if you Inc the year they had no control over) in debt. The previous regime had been lucky that big sales had helped stem the losses, but when Venky's took over the main 'stars' had been sold. With huge wages and a struggling side there was only going to be one outcome.
I expected exactly this to happen to them, although I must admit to thinking it would have happened perhaps 7-8 years before it did. Getting promoted again in 2001, and some star sales prolonged the story, that's all.

Shut up Saxo, plenty of your lot didn't rate Sam or his style of football.
Plus he usually gets the job when a club is struggling

Risdale wasn't the owner at Leeds was he, I thought he was just another crap chairman like Gartside.Chester Perry wrote:Glazers for how they changed football finance was what I was pointing to

Liverpool were a day or two from administration.
Yes the Glazers changed it, but Abramovich changed it before them with his take over of Chelsea.

The debt the Glazers put on United was astonishing.

Didn't the Glazers buy the club by basically taking a mortgage out, using the club itself as security?Sidney1st wrote:Risdale wasn't the owner at Leeds was he, I thought he was just another crap chairman like Gartside.

OP asks who do you think are the worst, my answer is the Oystons irrespective of what the article says.Chester Perry wrote:mentioned in the article

The Glazers bought Man United without a penny spent of their own money.

Re: The worst owners of Football Clubs
The bloke who changed the face of finance in football was Walker at Rovers who spent enough to buy a title. All the others then sat up and took notice.Sidney1st wrote: Yes the Glazers changed it, but Abramovich changed it before them with his take over of Chelsea.

Re: The worst owners of Football Clubs
Cellino did Leeds no favours until someone told him to shut-the-f*ck-up.
Re: The worst owners of Football Clubs
In my opinion the Oystons are the worst owners in English football. In my opinion it is important to preface every criticism of the Osytons with the phrase "in my opinion" because, in my opinion, the Oystons are thin-skinned litigious bullies. It has been rumoured that the Oystons have in the past filed litigation against Blackpool FC supporters for comments made on social media. It is my opinion that the need to preface every opinion on the Oystons with the phrase "it is my opinion", is, in fact, (in my opinion), indicative of them being, (in my opinion), the biggest c.unts in all of football.

Yes they did, which was bizarre and prompted the yellow and green scarf brigade to appear.Claretforever wrote:Didn't the Glazers buy the club by basically taking a mortgage out, using the club itself as security?
They've been quiet for a couple of years now

Re: The worst owners of Football Clubs
Not sure how Ridsdale can be listed as a 'worst owner' - he was a paid employee of Leeds. Still involved at PNE.
Good to see that Craig and Richardson are not forgotten but Hammam should be on that list.

Thought the bloke at Forest would be worth a mention.
Richmond left Bradford in mess for the sake of a couple of years in the top flight.

Vincent Tan has done well to avoid that list. Managed to help get Cardiff promoted to the Premier League and was still able to turn the entire fan base against him in a matter of days.
