F1

Post by Firthy » Sun Mar 26, 2017 10:14 am

Recorded the Australian Grand Prix and fast forwarded through it this morning. As boring and tedious as ever, the organisers need to look at GP2 and BTCC for ideas, much better racing.

But here is a quote from the BBC report, was he watching the same race as the rest of us ?

"The leaders might have made only one pit stop, which some might not like, but the intensity of the fights created by cars that test drivers to their limits for the first time in years made for a compelling afternoon."

Not sure I agree. The new tyre compounds are interesting and if Mercedes are finding them difficult to handle, will take a while to establish. Great start for Ferrari. The Australian Grand Prix traditionally throws up a surprise. It's never the most entertaining race, with only a few genuine overtaking opportunities on the park circuit.

They should start the season in Canada.

Yeah having to use snow chains on the tyres would add an extra level of intrigue.

Has Hamilton started crying yet about not winning the race?

Agree about the Canadian weather. Spa isn't a bad shout.

It's good to see Vettel and LH go mano mano for a change .Lewis is a breathtakingly quick driver and brilliant racer though his car management and tantrums are more akin to a 7yr old. Hopefully a more competitive season is in the offing ,though painfull to see the McLarens handling like railway carriages

My point exactly. The most interesting thing was that Ferrari won and overcame Mercedes dominance. There was no racing to speak of. Hamilton couldn't even overtake a slower car on knackered tyres, just about says it all about F1 at present.

Vettel was quick but essentially won because of the much increased difficulty in overtaking - which was predicted when the rule changes were announced - Hamilton lost the strategy game and got stuck behind Verstappen and that was essentially it - no actual racing. Hamilton's engine problems would have made it difficult to hold onto a lead, but until the aerodynamics change to something akin to the endurance cars it is all likely to remain a procession after the start or 1st tyre change.

Stiff competition between this and the Neymar thread for Couldn't-Give-A-Fuckedness.
