VAR: How many points?

Post by Paul Waine » Thu Mar 30, 2017 11:25 am

Times report on use of VAR (video assistant referee) in France v Spain friendly. VAR intervened on two "goal" incidents, one goal not allowed, the other allowed. Spain won 2-0. But it would have been 1-1 but for VAR.

How many points would Burnley gained and lost this season if VAR was in operation?

I can think of Arsenal's goal at Turf being ruled out, so +1. I can also think of Sam Vokes v Leicester being ruled out, so -2. And, unlikely to have got the penalty at Swansea, put no change in the result.

Any others?

Swansea should have been 2-1 defeat, so 0
Leicester should have been 0-0 so -2
Arsenal should have been 0-0 so +1
Arsenal should have been 1-1 so +1

So, we're even as far as I can tell

We should have had a penalty against Swansea at home on the opening day.

It maybe only for goals ( offside/infringement in the build up) like a review at cricket. Don't think it will be used for fouls.

We are about even but they'll be a few teams quite a few points better off.
Man United and Arsenal spring to mind immediately and that could easily be 6 points+ without counting.

Obviously some will be down too.

Remembering of course that Arsenal start on -4 just based on their games against us!

I'm sure sanchez scored with his hand v Hull too at 0-0 too, but I allowed that as it benefited us
