Will Rovers escape the BIG drop ?
Have to admit that I have felt all season that Rovers would avoid the drop. However I am beginning to think they could actually be playing in Division 1 next year !!! How good would that be. Just been looking at the remaining fixtures and Rovers have 3 home and 3 away inc a home game v Bristol City and away at Forest. The other 2 most likely for the drop ( Forest and Bristol City) both have 4 home and 2 away games left as do Burton after tonights game at Newcastle.
Rovers currently trail City by 1 point and Forest by 2 and have a slightly inferior gd.
Remaining Fixture are
Rovers Home v Barnsley, Bristol City and Villa. Away v Forest Wolves and Brentford
Bristol City Home v Wolves,QPR, Barnsley, Birmingham Away v Rovers .Brighton
Forest Home v Huddersfield, Rovers, Reading. Ipswich. Away v Cardiff, QPR.
Forest maybe have the tougher run in but crucially have a 2 point cushion plus a home game v Rovers
City look to have some winnable home games and a draw at Deadwood would be fine.
Rovers must avoid defeat v Forest and City.
What a party we could be having on May 7th

Rovers are bad, really bad and have lost their two best defenders however, Bristol City are dire and I think they will stay up - just, but doomed next season !

Yes they think Mulgrew is out for the season. Could be a lot of Claret and Blue at Rovers last home game !

Re: Will Rovers escape the BIG drop ?
I'm not a Claret who subscribes to the notion that them going out of business is a good thing. I do however think them dropping down a division (or two!) would set things right for the 19 years of subsidised tickets, free coaches from far flung places around the north west, which improved their gates no end, and benefactor led success.
The hilarious thing about the goings on over there is that their fans actually believe (really!!!) that they are the only club to have ever had owners who have made poor choices. They feel like victims.

Oh, they have Barnsley and Bristol City as their next two home matches. Less than 4 points from those two and I think they'll drop.
Re: Will Rovers escape the BIG drop ?
If Bristol keep hold of Lee Johnson I fear they will be the ones to drop. A terrible manager, far worse than Mowbray who's actually done okay since taking charge of the Bar Stewards.

their 7 games without a loss has quickly become 7 games without a win.
New manager syndrome. Now they are back to being what they have been for the last few years...Utter $h1te.
i still think it's possible Florist will save them.

Unfortunately I think they may just survive, as both Brizzle and Forest are dire at the moment. For me if they do it us delaying the inevitable, more cutbacks next season, worse players etc.
Party time when they do drop, the sooner the better for me. UTC

Yes, unfortunately.
As stated above, Bristol Titty are awful.
Hope I'm wrong, though.

I think they'll rag it and stay up. Bristol City to drop. Shame. Hope I'm wrong.
(Although if they go down and manage to keep some of their 'better' players, they might do well - like Bolton this season.)

Are the Venkys aware that the relegation rules also apply to the minor leagues?

They are jammy enough to survive. They have always had a decent slice of luck.
Recently though, things have been different.
So to answer the OP, no. They won't. And I will enjoy the experience like they did. That's if I ever see one. Anyone else noticed there's' not so many about these days?

Re: Will Rovers escape the BIG drop ?
Anyone who watched Bristol City dismantle Huddersfield 4-0 a few Friday's ago would surely have expected them to beat the drop.
Away they seem rubbish though.
Burton's win at Huddersfield has certainly thrown the cat amongst the pigeons but I expect Rovers to beat Barnsley on saturday. If they don't, I reckon they're favourites for relegation.

Re: Will Rovers escape the BIG drop ?
I can only pray they drop, then drop again, all the years of hurt, all the years they gloated at our poor league standing, at our poor poor sides let them rot...... and let's see how they respond
No Fecking way do I wish them anything else apart from pain on the pitch and the empty stands.
Bitter me ha never

It's still mathematical that we could meet next season or be two leagues apart. That's been this season for you.
I think it'll be one.
Hopefully league one.

Nothing, they don't get them anymore from the PL and got a loan out using their final years worth as guarantors anyway.Diesel wrote:What are the parachute payments in League one?
They're now taking out high interest loans against future ticket sales.
Venkys are trying to stop pumping money into the club, but the fans are hoping administration happens soon because they believe it will force the Venkys to sell.

I am surrounded where I live by Rovers so called fans and season ticket holders.
If they get relegated I am going to have a street party in blue and white even if I am the only person who goes to it.

Hopefully it goes to the last day and after looking safe for 90 minutes leading 1-0 they go down on goal difference because of a last minute Brentford goal.

Re: Will Rovers escape the BIG drop ?
I think they'll just have enough given Bristol's tougher run in. I'm not massively fussed to be honest, I don't want to them to thrive nor do I want them to go to the wall. Languishing in the bottom third of the championship for the next decade would be more than acceptable to me, if we're still in the premiership.

I agree with the post regarding Lee Johnson, he's p!ss poor and unfortunately, I reckon that'll keep Rovers up.
How do people think Rovers will do next season, if they were to stay up this time?

Us in the top flight, them in the 3rd Div, back to the good old days, how it used to be, before we decided to spectacularly fall from grace and uncle jack's retirement fund popped up.

Re: Will Rovers escape the BIG drop ?
If they stay in the championship without big investment from the Venkys they will be round about the same position next year with another 1k off the gate.
If they go down they might do a Bolton and winning every week will get crowds and interest back up at less expense for the Venky's.
Their academy would probably supply enough talent for league one.

The barstewards are gone and then i will collect my winnings for backing them to get relegated preseason and use it to pay for quite a few away games next season and have a party to celebrate the joyous moment!

Ideally I'd love to see them drop straight into League 2 but sadly I don't think they're that bad....yet.
I'll settle for them hovering within touching distance of the play-offs without them quite managing to break into the top 6. It's the hope that'll kill 'em.

Re: Will Rovers escape the BIG drop ?
Latest relegation prices are
Rovers 7/5
Forest 3/1
Bristol 4/1
Maybe a good bet would be to back a tenner each on Forest and City. If Forest go down you win 20 quid and if City go down you win 30 quid. If Rovers go down you lose 20 quid but have one of the best days of your life. Now that`s what I call a win/win/win bet. Lump on and enjoy the ride.

Bristol City are crap, but a couple of things in their favour are that they have a goal difference still
four better than Venkys and four of their last six games are at home against teams in the bottom half.
Win a couple of them and who knows?
So here's hoping!

Re: Will Rovers escape the BIG drop ?
Barnsley are 8 without a win so if Rovers don't beat them the pressure really is on.
As a manager Mowbray is streets ahead of Johnson (not sure how Huddersfield managed to lose 4-0 at City though) and that will probably prove to be enough to edge them to safety.

Last time I saw anything, they had half a dozen players out of contract in the summer, plus the loan players will be off back to their parent clubs.taffy wrote:How many players would rovers have to let go if relegated, they could drop straight through to the div 2
Gallagher and Emnes primarily.
They need to massively slash their wage bill, its currently the 9th highest in the championship and needs at least £10million pa knocking off it to give them any sort of chance of financially stabilising themselves, even that may not be enough of a reduction.
They had a transfer budget of £250k this season to give you an idea of how much of a mess they're in, mainly made free signings or loans.

I wouldn't count Burton out just yet, they've a tough run in...regrettably, I think t'Roverrrrs will survive but gates are stll falling & the June'17 accounts should make interesting reading as this is the 1st season they've had no parachute payments....
Am I alone in thinking that Mowbray may be using them to get back in the " Shop Window " ? If he keeps them up, he may get a better offer...
