Listening to instead of watching the match

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Wed Apr 05, 2017 8:31 pm

Does anyone else prefer listening to radio coverage of other teams games over watching it? Or am I the only saddo that does this.

Sky coverage of city away at chelsea tonight doesnt appeal but sat here listening on 5 live.

Commentary is far better, you dont have to endure the nonsense in the studio and best of all dont see all the diving and injury feigning.

Radio commentators always seem better than the tv ones.

There's a real knack to radio commentary, not to get too poncey but it's like poetry, art. Enviable ability to be succinct yet descriptive when so often less is more.

(You're not on your own, I often prefer it.)

With you 100% on this one. Watching the footy has become far too commercialised and analysis done to death on every possible pattern of play.

Listening on the radio is far more exciting these days.

Sam Matterface is my favourite radio commentator. Interestingly, I don't think he's anywhere near as good when on the TV.

Give me TMS over sky sports any day

If I was on desert island discs, access to TMS would be my luxury.

Not really heard a lot of radio commentary but when I lived away from Burnley I had Clarets Player for a season and didn't get much from it. I always thought Phil Bird seemed like a TV commentator on the radio, i.e. he spoke assuming the listener could see where the action was taking place (when of course they couldn't). Often times I felt completely lost and found myself on the verge of a heart attack thinking the opposition were bearing down on our goal, only to discover a few moments later they were actually only just inside our half. That said this was roughly 8 years ago so I appreciate he may have improved, but I think I'd choose watching on TV any time.

I subscribe to sky, BT and clarets player. Unless I am there, the less stressful is Gillette soccer special or radio 5 perhaps I should save myself at least 40quid a month and cancel, or just go to every match. I did so in the 70's.
Watching live beats anything, even if we are shite.

I watched the Chelsea City game on NBC.

You avoid Lineker and his arse lickers like Savage if he is on BT sport, plus they show all the goals at half time and full time as they have happened on the night meaning you avoid Lineker and his arse lickers like Shearer if he is on MOTD.

A fantastic service
