I've been sat here trying to work out how many more game we need to hold on to this points gap for.

Snap.
Do you factor in all the 'ifs and buts'? And factor in what position we could be in?

Likeswise, it's a real tense situation for all involved.
12 teams 37 points or fewer.
6 teams matching points
3 points between 15th and 17th
West Brom should be very pleased to be 7 points clear in 8th! Fans were calling for Pullis's head for the last couple seasons.

Nuts? It's more likely a form of OCD (obsessive clarets disorder) - symptoms include: chronic, illogical anxiety, lack of interest in anything else about the world around you, compulsion to visit the fridge, and a continuous need to recalculate the number of points difference between Hull (and now Swansea), and Burnley.

I'm the same, veering from, "Oh, this is looking so good" to "Oh, hang on, what if....".
There are so many possibilities but again the lovely thing is that we have the points on the board, the better goal difference and, overall, we're just a win away.
A few of the teams below us aren't far from the position of HAVING to win games. Any slip ups and they are in big, big trouble. We aren't.

A small point: No team with a seven point gap with seven games to go has ever been relegated in a 38 game season!

HAHA Best post ever. This is my life - until we are safe / or confirmed as promoted at least! So has been my life pretty much under Dyche.
Wake up. Work. Check UTC. Work. Work. Read something else about Burnley. check Leage table. Work. Finish work. Go for a walk. Talk about Burnley. Check league table again. Catch up on some emails. Go for a drive. Check league table. Go to bed. Cant sleep check UTC. Speak to the mrs for first time that day. Check UTC again. Sleep. Repeat.

Spurs did us a huge favour last night. The table looks a lot healthier this morning than it did at about half past 9 last night! One more win is the mantra i guess. If we can beat Boro at the weekend i might finally say "we're safe"!

I'll tell you what, we're focusing on Hull and Swansea but West Ham have now lost five on the bounce. We might even relegate them on the last day!

I look at this site - it tells us that we have a <1% chance of being relegated.

How different would it look if Swansea hadn't done the double on us?

I worried for months that Hulls injury time equaliser ont'Turf would see them pip us for safety.Acting Claret wrote:How different would it look if Swansea hadn't done the double on us?
Then it became Llorentes winner after such an obvious foul.
Now I'm happy. We seem to dip in Feb/March most years but always finish strong.

Re: I can't stop studying the league table..I think I'm nuts.
I'm feeling more confident after last night. As SD would say, it's in our own hands. We still have Boro, Palace and West Ham to play and 3 draws from them might be enough, I can't see Swansea getting 11 points from their remaining 7 games.
We're quite capable of getting wins at home to Man U and W Brom so I'm more optimistic than pessimistic as things stand. I also feel out fitness levels will help towards the end of the season.
Ideally I'd love to see us beat Boro and West Ham to relegate them both, only time will tell.

Re: I can't stop studying the league table..I think I'm nuts.
Only highlights, but Hull looked to be playing with a lot of confidence and pace. Markovic Grosicki, Niasse and Clucas all have a bit of class about them and I can't see them going down.
The flip side to that is that defensively, Boro looked absolutely woeful. If ever there was a time to give it a real go away from home, Boro is it. As for the bottom 3, I can't look past Palace, Boro and Sunderland. Palace have a ridiculous run in; Arsenal, Spurs, Man City, Liverpool, Man United still to play.
Arsenal (h)
Leicester (h)
Liverpool (a)
Spurs (h)
Burnley (h)
Man City (a)
Hull (h)
Man United (a)

As I am not ever going to that London stadium again, WHU is my choice for the third team to join Sunderland and Middlesbrough!

given our record and luck against Swansea (and for Paul Clement running around the pitch like a muppet) I'd like them to go down tbh - we have a better record against Hull that's for sure

Those 2 points we lost to arsenal this season would have made us all feel soooooo much more comfortable
Re: I can't stop studying the league table..I think I'm nuts.
West ham have Sunderland and Swansea next. if they win those matches I think we'll get enough points to survive.
I'd rather Swansea went down, who cares about playing those nobodys? I'd much rather West ham stayed up than them.
