Why would we have agreed to sell to Everton in January?

Re: Gossip column
I always find sources are useful.
Fair point in 4..good question..it suits us to have a bidding war for Keane [indeed for any of our players].
An agreement in January, before he gets any England caps, would be a big mistake and we are normally more astute in the transfer market.
The thread is called 'gossip column' though, so I guess any old tosh [unsourced] can be typed into this thread.

Re: Gossip column
The source is someone who works at Everton that told me Ronald Koeman would be their new manager weeks before he was appointed in the summer (among other things).
I'd imagine it's a first refusal/good faith/under the table type of deal and there was no fee agreed, because a lot can happen between January and the end of the season (like the player winning two England caps).

Re: Gossip column
Tall Paul..with respect that still sounds odd to me..
So let's assume we have this 'agreement' [but with no fee agreed] with Everton, to sell Keane to them when the season is done.
So [assume] then that Everton offer £22m and they think he's their's..
MUFC offer £25m
Chelsea offer £27m
Man City/Liverpool/Arsenal offer £30m
I wonder who he would end up signing for?

Re: Gossip column
Think Keane can do way better than Everton.
Re: Gossip column
I'm not bothered if you believe it and I don't know the details. Just passing on what I've heard from what I think is a reliable source.

Re: Gossip column
I had heard the same like I said on here over a month ago but it was £50 million for Keane and Heaton. Over the odds for heats but meaning not paying much sell on to Utd
Re: Gossip column
Heaton hasn't been mentioned to me, he thinks Schmeicel is Everton's top goalkeeping target.Cleveleys_claret wrote:I had heard the same like I said on here over a month ago but it was £50 million for Keane and Heaton. Over the odds for heats but meaning not paying much sell on to Utd
Re: Gossip column
I can't understand why Keane would want to sign for Everton. Surely the player has a say in where he goes?
Re: Gossip column
Everton is a big club and it'd be a good move because he would be more guaranteed of first team football than the clubs above them. Wouldn't be surprised if he goes to a bigger club though.
Reckon Everton will be in for Pickford

Re: Gossip column
Why would we agree to sell to Everton in January when there's absolutely nothing in it for us or the player. People believe the most ridiculous things.

Re: Gossip column
Everton would be a good move, well respected manager, Jagielka nearing the end of his career, good solid defensive partner in Williams and still in the north west, if Keane doesn't fancy moving far.
They also pay reasonable well.

Re: Gossip column
Re a fee if Everton want to buy Michael Keane: how much did you get for John Stones? £50 million? OK, that is a good benchmark for Michael Keane...

Re: Gossip column
So we again become a feeder club for Everton - all our real talents end up there - Lawton, Dobson, Steven now Keane and Heaton

Might it have been so we can keep him until the summer and kill off speculation until then so we can concentrate on staying up?

Re: Gossip column
More likely his agent has agreed certain things and we all know the club won't allow him to simply see out his contract.

Re: Gossip column
Everton are in the market for a decent cb.Michael Keane is one of the best it's got to be £40M so we have £30m to spend on a replacements .

Re: Gossip column
Who cares where Keane goes? As long as we get a good price ,I'd hate to lose Heaton as well though as it could just spark an exodus with Gray Barton Defour etc following suit bearing in mind Boyds off and Scotty as well I'd say ( Brilliant servants but time to move on)

Re: Gossip column
heaton would be a real blow . best keeper in the league in my view. Be strange surviving and getting more cash, then losing our best players.
He's not really letting Ayegi get on as a sub let alone having him as an immediate replacement for gray.
Losing keane would be potentially ruinous for our chances. These are undoubtably our best players.

Re: Gossip column
Surely Keane leaving is a done deal ,big money(for him and us) big club and furthering a huge talent at a bigger club is good all round I think. I'm looking forward to seeing Tarky as he's looked good and itching to play ,hopefully the Keane money will bag us a high quality goal scorer .

Re: Gossip column
The club will surely have been planning for Keane's departure and would expect them to have one or more targets lined-up already.
Heaton would be a real blow, but would be surprised if he's chasing a move away. With Keane it would appear inevitable.
