QPR Player of the Year Awards Evening

Post by ClaretTony » Tue Apr 11, 2017 10:54 am

They've not had such an event for six years but last week announced its return.

CEO Lee Hoos said: “I’m really pleased we’ve managed to bring back the Player of the Year event to QPR after a short absence. Ian Holloway, in particular, was very keen for us to hold an event this year following the success of previous events in his first spell in charge – so we’re all delighted we’ve firstly managed to locate a suitable, local venue and secondly one at a price point that is affordable for the QPR supporters.

“I appreciate the announcement of the event is quite late on in the season, but I’m sure the fans will embrace the return of the event, which promises to be a great night for everyone connected to the club.”

Seven days on, the event was cancelled due to a lack of support.

CEO Lee Hoos said: "We are naturally disappointed that we've had to cancel the event. I have spoken to a lot of fans over the last 18 months about their desire for the event to return, but it seems the price point is still an issue and therefore we've been left with little option but to cancel the event."

The event included a drinks reception and a 3-course Asian inspired dinner. The price point Hoos referred to as being an issue? £119 a ticket.

Best seats at ours are £100 which I thought was ridiculous, but these were all priced at £119 although you did get £10 per person off if you booked a table of 10.

I think it is a joke to charge anywhere near £100 for a ticket for one of these events.

They should be at least half of that price.

Hoos defended the price of £119 by saying next years would be £19 once you knocked off his retainer fee

How long has Hoos been at QPR now?

Thank goodness he "left" us and headed for the bright lights. It's fine messing around with the cosmetic stuff like player of the year awards, but they have still not addressed the fact they are running a Championship club on Premier League wages. A quick glance at the Swiss Ramble thread shows their wages for last year at a whopping £41 million.

If ours was £100, and QPR's was £119 - is that not fair considering the salary gap between 'Burnley Wages' and 'London Wages'?

QPR will have been charged more for a venue, more for catering, more for drinks etc etc.

If anything, it highlights a problem with our own rather than theirs!

I have just noticed that the one advertised on the club web site, if you don't bother with the champs reception or the premium seats or the DVD, then tickets are £59. Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

GOLD £99: Premium seats, champagne reception, exclusive highlights package DVD, three-course meal, and ample opportunity to meet the players and management.

SILVER £59: Silver category seating, three-course meal, and ample opportunity to meet the players and management

No reason at all for any club to rip off fans for a POTY awards do. £30/40 is plenty enough.

You can't hire these venues and provide a 3 course meal for £30/£40 per person.

I agree Rileybobs. This kind of event would not be put on for £30/£40 however i guess we do not hire the venue but means it is unavailable for other events which would result in a loss of income.

Ridiculous charging £100.00, why do they do it, because they know what a well supported club we are and that plenty of supporters will pay it. Its called "taking the -iss". I love the club as much as anyone else, however, I would not pay even £50.00, its a money grabbing rip off.

We have our own venue in the JH suite. What else would it be used for during the week?

It's not large enough to accommodate the 700 or so attendees. It's being held in a large marquee on the car park, which obviously comes at a fair cost.

They should've hosted ours on the pitch with free access for all season ticket holders. A boxing style set up, covered with the promotion money.

Exactly. More of an issue with ours. Granted we had a succesful season.

In all honesty I struggle to think why anyone would want to pay to go to something like this. Will be full of wag wannabees and brown nosers.
