Smacks

Post by Quickenthetempo » Tue Apr 11, 2017 12:14 pm

Decided to introduce a £2 door charge.

Can't see this going down right well in Burnley. Hard times but who will pay to listen to Scott Noddings on the decks?

Blimey, is Scott still doing the "music" in there ? He must be near retirement.

Goes in line with most of the other places in Burnley to be fair.

Not been in Smacks in ages, and I think I'm over the hill in terms of the club scene now, but it was always just "alright" in there, never anything else.

I don't think I've enjoyed a night out in Burnley since Graffiti closed down. But that's only cause that's my music scene.

It used to be an Indie type place in the 90s when we went regular but the rare appearance into Burnley these days seen the likes of Steps being played in there.

More like "SPICE" girls, if the current trend to want to kill yourself is
prevalent in Burnley.

Saw the examples in Manchester on last night's news - what's that all about ?

It's true it used to be decent, and I think a couple of years ago everybody was in agreement that Smacks needed a change given it'd had the exact same playlist for over a decade. However, I don't think the change was to give it a soundtrack that wouldn't be out of place at a 5th birthday party.

I found it too busy and you could hardly move. I preferred downstairs which seemed to always be quieter.

Last time I was in was after the Bolton away game last season. I think it's 'party' music on middle and top floors and indie in the cellar bar.

Seems Brexit only effects them on Saturdays and Sundays after midnight, does Brexit not know about Fridays or the hours before midnight ?

Maybe Ian should be honest and say I see a chance to fleece a couple of quid extra out of people and have found something to hide behind.

Burnmark has it spot on. The cellar always plays indie. Oldest night time venue in Burnley, caters for most groups - must be doing something right ;)

Who's Scott Noddings? Is he related to Keith who played for our reserves in the late 1960s?

I bet it is - surely can't be two people called Keith Noddings. I knew Keith well when he was at the club. He lodged with my auntie for a time. Not seen him in years though. Last I heard he was living in Hapton.

Apparently the owner has denied he blamed Brexit and said the Burnley Express added that themselves. I mentioned a couple of weeks ago the Express was very anti brexit and was coming accross in all their work.

They are just like the rest of the media then only the Burnley express hasn't even tried to make it subtle. They are only doing themselves a diservice as a **** newspaper.

I've heard the owner has this morning reinforced the fact that he did specifically blame Brexit and also insisted the Burnley Express mention that repeatedly in the article.

Sad I know, but a gang of us used to go out in the early 90s and when the question was "where we going next?" and somebody replied "smacks" they'd get tw@ed by the rest of the lads !

When I first went out it was always without fail Sidewalk to start, then to the turf if it was a matchday if it wasnt onto bootleggers, smacks, paradise, and then depending on what night it was followed by either club53, 'TheWorks', Graffiti club or in some days even afterlife. XS Now and again but was never keen.
