Drones, I might buy a gun.
Guns to me are the biggest no no in a democracy they replace freedom by fear, If there was one invention I'd get rid of it would be them, but drones are almost making me change my mind.
A vast drone over the allotment at Lacock today, and true to its name it made a horrendous din, just sitting their taking its photos for some unseen individual, the last sanctity of space the sky taken from us, the all seeing eye the humans worst nightmare now a real threat. One step too far for me, I'm getting my catapults ready.

Could not agree more.
CCTV, mobile phone tracking, social media and email monitoring, the PC brigade.
No hope for individualistic flair, just do as you are told.

You can just picture ablue in his camouflage gear hiding in his cabbages taking pot shots at the drone

Middle of the allotment still lies empty, though the size of it hardly warrants the title midfield.

Has anybody flown one? What sort of range do you get? I can see how they'd be fun to fly.

You can get into a lot of trouble with a catapult, believe me. Especially if you use four square elastic.ablueclaret wrote:Guns to me are the biggest no no in a democracy they replace freedom by fear, If there was one invention I'd get rid of it would be them, but drones are almost making me change my mind.

Professor Tarkowski in the allotment with the gun.
Re: Drones, I might buy a gun.
Totally agree with you. Surely it's classed as an invasion of your privacy if someone is looking into your garden through a camera on a drone. I'd be tempted to do the same, shoot it down and throw it in your bin.

Re: Drones, I might buy a gun.
This one was about 12 foot in diameter and operating at about 200', might have been out of range. The fact it can just sit over you with its owner obviously able to watch everything you're doing is frightening, but the fact you have to put up with an intrusive noisy machine hovering over you and ruining the peace and tranquility of the sky is even more disturbing.

Re: Drones, I might buy a gun.
I have a drone and yes they are great fun to fly. Range varies from machine to machine, I have been out to the maximum recommended in the uk, about 1800 feet.FactualFrank wrote:Has anybody flown one? What sort of range do you get? I can see how they'd be fun to fly.
And no, I don't take videos of people. And no, I don't fly near aircraft, actually impossible to do with mine as it geofenced and won't even take off in restricted airspace.
Re: Drones, I might buy a gun.
We went camping last summer and someone on the site insisted on flying one over us at random times during the day so we bought a couple of kites for the kids.

If Google start flying thousands of drones, I will buy a gun! Reason is if I choose to sit in a quiet park, or on a beach, or walk in the countryside...I do not want endless Google drones buzzing away.
The best solution I have seen is a gun that sends out multi radio waves and jams the signal causing the drones to fall out the sky.

Re: Drones, I might buy a gun.
ps. I am not against a single drone being used to take photos etc. It is the thought of hundreds of thousands of commercial devices making a constant buzz over this great country. And what effect on wildlife?

Not sure what I would find most disturbing during my countryside jaunt, The overhead buzz of the drones or some random rambler furiously letting off lead towards the sky..LoveCurryPies wrote:If Google start flying thousands of drones, I will buy a gun! Picture this in a not too distant future, a supertanker bring 'Christmas presents' all the way from China but instead the cargo is full of warrior drones, google mapping and poisoned plastic darts to police every street corner in the UK and wipe us out before Nostradamus's 'hordes from the East invade, having softened the whole of the populace to catatonia and schizophrenic psychoses via MOTD and the computer graphic 'football' pushing yr psyche to the back of one's skull as it invades one's personal space.
How about you build a warrior drone to down the one over yr allotment, Ablue.

Re: Drones, I might buy a gun.
A similar experience/feeling the other month here in Japan. I went with the family to a local `spot` much loved by the locals with a beautiful waterfall the main draw. 50 or 60 people enjoying the majesty but alas a bloody drone DIRECTLY in our line of sight. After 2 minutes, I spotted to chap in control, walked down to him and stood directly in front of him. He said "I can`t see my drone" to which I replied "We can`t see our waterfall". He landed his craft shortly thereafter.ablueclaret wrote:Guns to me are the biggest no no in a democracy they replace freedom by fear, If there was one invention I'd get rid of it would be them, but drones are almost making me change my mind.

Seems odd that people think they have a right to enjoy a park but other people engaging in different but perfectly legal activities don't.

I picture drone aficionados as being those weirdos in camo trousers, beige fishing jackets and those weird tinted glasses.

will keying of a CB radio have the same effect that they had on model airplanes. I knew so called enthusiastic CB guys who used to go up on pendle and just key the mikes for fun. Not something I indulged in but just wonder if that would knock said drones out of the sky. 19 for a copy starfighter going down

They usually drive an old Mitsubishi Pajero with the exhaust coming up over the cab, raised suspension, and a confederate flag sticker on the bumper. Nonces.Chobulous wrote:CB enthusiasts

Once you fill airspace wth noise you might as well give up, the world needs silence more than anything and yet people are terrified of it.
