Thursdays racing
first of all...the 2 bets yesterday...irrespective of a race result I always try to evaluate the race with an open mind.
although there was late money for COOLFITCH I am pretty sure it was just punters like myself who had spotted her efforts last season...she was settled in rear going a touch keen early prior to travelling strongly then made ground into midfield when winner had well and truly flown...in the end only beaten 2 3/4 lengths into 6th by the 2nd horse....paddock watchers described her condition as a bit tubby so she will strip fitter for that run....trainer loves getting winners at york....would be very interesting if contesting a 5f sprint at mays dante meeting....very much a filly to keep tabs on.
FIRE DIAMOND was heavily backed from 9/2 to 9/4 but race was over after a furlong by holding him up last off a steady pace...made good headway late when race was over and I had a feeling of deja vu....will win more races at 7f on the all weather but will need to come off a guaranteed strong pace...perhaps 12 or 14 runners...will also need luck in running so not one to take a short price about.
today the racing is really poor....I did spot one last night...in the 2 40 JACK THE LAIRD....has run on all weather a few times and started to look exposed but the last 2 runs over this trip were both from bad draws and ran well....his 3 tries at todays trip have all been decent efforts...problem I have is that the jockey Duern has a strike rate of 1/61 for yard and his last 56 rides have all been losers....if this horse gets out of the gates and sits just behind leader from his good draw in 3 he should go close....I simply dont trust the jockey to carry out the plan.....even after saying that he would have to give the horse a bad ride not to get a place.....will decide later after my 2nd coffee ....certainly wont be nap material given my concerns...utc.
