When will America bring in gun control. What is the problem?

They're scared of the British coming back with their muskets.

The right for any American to own an assault rifle that fires 800 rounds a minute.

I know this thread won't be a surprise nor will I ever expect anything to change but man, it's sad.

It's only sad because we are swamped by American news, entertainment and culture because they (sometimes) speak English over there.

I'd be quite happy to be oblivious to how many people were shooting themselves or one another in the U.S.

I will tell you that from when I first moved here 25 years ago I had the gun control argument on a regular basis and put my point across in your usual sane and normal manner. They just don't see it. It's ridiculous. About 10 years ago I stopped having these conversations out of choice because they are a time waster, it always goes the same way.

Their justification is what if the government goes bad they have guns we need more guns. If they get MORE guns we need more guns. And if someone else has guns and threatens my family I need guns.

You can't solve that it's an insecurity thats been entrenched for 200 years.

You'll never be able to take away their right to murder each other with guns.

Even when school kids are massacred, their answer is to allow more guns in schools.

They're a special kind of stupid, but there are so many guns out there now they'll never be able to get rid of them anyway.

As has been suggested above. It's an insecurity that is entrenched in the American psyche. The 2nd Amendment states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
You could argue that this amendment is null and void as they have formed a well regulated militia. It's called the US Army/National Guard.
That amendment will be fiercely protected by the NRA and it's supporters despite there not being any outside threat which cannot be protected and served better by their military.
Common sense says that if you allow anyone to own a gun, that the law of averages says there is likely to be an increase in the likelihood of a nutter getting hold of one.
The problem won't go away any time soon as they'll resort to the line that guns don't kill people, people kill people. There are also plenty of 'milita's' in the USA who mistrust their own government.
The only way to stop this is to amend the 2nd amendment and regulate guns. That is as far away as happening as it ever was.
