Jules Rimet
For any football geeks (like me), The 1966 World Cup trophy is on display until this Sunday at The National Football Museum in Manchester.
Re: Jules Rimet

Re: Jules Rimet
Have we managed to smuggle it out of Brazil? They won it outright in 1970.cricketfieldclarets wrote:For any football geeks (like me), The 1966 World Cup trophy is on display until this Sunday at The National Football Museum in Manchester.
Re: Jules Rimet
Is this the trophy that was stolen in Brazil in 1983 and never recovered? Or is it the replica?

Re: Jules Rimet
Was it never recovered? They should have called for Pickles, he found it when it was stolen here.dsr wrote:Is this the trophy that was stolen in Brazil in 1983 and never recovered? Or is it the replica?
The National Football Museum are claiming it is the original, maybe it was us who nicked it from the Brazilians.

Re: Jules Rimet
I did think it went AWOL but presumed it had been found as they are saying its the original. Unless its an original replica
Wasnt there something to do with pickles in our trophy cabinet?

Re: Jules Rimet
Pickles was the dog that found the Jules Rimet Trophy when it was stolen ahead of the 1966 World Cup, nothing to do with Burnley. We might have a jar of pickles in there though.

Yeah I know that about the dog, but I am sure there was something to do with him in the trophy cabinet at Burnley. A news story or a world cup replica.

It wasn't just the 1966 trophy though, was it? It was a trophy a lot of other times too, you know, when you didn't win it for being the best at that game you invented.

Perhaps you're thinking about the stuffed cat that's sat on the window sill in the boardroom for many a year.

I went a few weeks ago. I'm sure the plaque next to it said it was a replica. Regardless, a very good free museum.

10..which krapp football country do you support?
When did they last win anything remotely connected with football?
When do you think they will next win an international football competition?
Cheers.

Re: Jules Rimet
Thats two prestigious trophies that have gone missing. The original FA Cup trophy was stolen from a Birmingham shop window in 1895, where it had been on display courtesy of competition holders Aston Villa.
After beating local rivals West Bromwich Albion 1-0 the trophy was brought to town for proud fans to view, but while on display at a sports shop in Aston, the cup was stolen without a trace.
The original trophy was much smaller than the present one and was made by Messrs Martin, Hall & Co, of Birmingham, costing £20.
Efforts to recover the original FA Cup were unsuccessful, and Aston Villa bosses were forced to pay a fine of £25 because the trophy was stolen while in their care.
I bet a baggies fan was that envious he couldn't resist
