Would there be a reason for me receiving 2 wage slips

Post by ClaretAndJew » Tue Apr 18, 2017 3:14 pm

Hello fellow Clarets ;)

Just a quick question that I can't seem to get any real concise answers for so wonder if anyone can offer any help.

I was working on a contracted basis for a private care firm up until the end of last year when I transferred over to a "bank" position, basically ad-hoc, as and when. I've also started working bank with the NHS, again, as and when.

I've noticed, since then, I receive 2 lots of wage slips from both companies. Both with the same time worked and amount paid, but they come about 2-3 days apart.

Is this just a coincidental clerical error? Or have I ballsed something up, in terms of P60's etc?

Cheers!

Hi CAndJ, I don't understand some of your vocabulary: "contracted basis" and "bank position...."

Are you doing two jobs, one for the private care firm and one for the NHS? What is the employer's name and employment reference number on the payslips, are these different? As Sidney says, do you get two amounts paid, I assume into your bank? And, are you paying two amounts of tax?

I've seen a few times when payroll departments make mistakes with payrolls. When I started one job they forgot to pay me first month - I got it sorted quickly. Another time, payroll paid double money to one employee - they'd mistakenly paid another employee's money to the wrong person. The guy getting paid double wasn't very quick about reporting it, which was a little worrying in a very small office (<25 employees).

I'd speak to someone at work, your line manager may be best place to start.

Good luck.

So to clarify you're bank staff for 2 different businesses?

Quickenthetempo, I'm a **** not a banker.

Yeah, I work for the NHS and a private care company on an as and when required basis.

I get paid both into the same bank account from both companies, but yet receive 2 x wage slips for each lot of work I do (4 wage slips in total) with the wage slips being identical (the NHS are identical and the private care are identical).

It's been happening since about January time, and it's not effecting anything in terms of money paid or whatever, and tax seems to be going out of them, I've just never received duplicate pay slips before and from two companies it seems a bit weird, like there's something amiss.

I know other bank staff and none of them have ever had 2 wage slips in a single month.

It sounds like a clerical error, but you'd be better off checking with the respective offices.

As above, suggest you speak with line manager/supervisor. Perhaps everyone gets duplicate payslips - though I can't think why.

Employers send tax year end pay details to HMRC about now, and you should receive P60s from each employment. If you receive duplicate P60s you might get demand for extra tax from HMRC - even though it doesn't sound as there should be anything wrong with your PAYE.

Chances are if you're getting two lots of payslips, that HMRC is as well. So they'll possibly be taking more tax than they should.
