A young Accy fan

Post by KRBFC » Thu Apr 27, 2017 8:42 pm

I saw it on the news earlier tonight, Accy are donating £25k towards helping fund the £250k needed for a little lad (cant remember name or age) to get treatment for cancer in America. I believe they said they had raised nearly £100k, I wonder if Burnley will help out. Id like to see us help but I don't think we're the kind to do such a thing. It left me wondering though, why on earth is it so expensive, not many people have £250k lying around.

Sadly, the cost of medicines, research, development and testing are huge.

It very much depends on the illness and the drug(s) needed to support the illness - the more common, the more likely it is that it will be cheaper and more readily available.

A former colleague was and still is campaigning for the NHS to fund the treatment that her daughter requires to avoid the need for dialysis. I'm sure that just the tablets to aid the kidney transplant were in the region of quarter of a million.

It was kicked back by the NHS because it is such a rare illness that she suffers from. There must be some hugely difficult decisions taken in the NHS when weighing up on what their budgets will be spent.

What's the policy on refunds?

Nice to see the young kid from Accy walk out with Heaton today, surprised nobody has mentioned it unless I have missed it. Are the club making a donation?

It would be a fantastic gesture.
I'm certain the club will have donated an undisclosed amount.
