Agreed. Looks like a footballer, who plays in defence. Occasionally, you get a defender who can actually play. Bobby Moore, paolo maldini, beckenbauer etc.
Not saying tarka is at that level, or that he ever will be. But he's very comfortable in possession. I like that.

Re: Tarky Superb Yesterday
We know he's a good player but so are the other two, (Keane and Mee) Tarks reminds me of David Luiz but I'd imagine James has a larger penis.

Two superb footballing centre halves we had on show yesterday. Tarka is big, strong and can really play.

Re: Tarky Superb Yesterday
bit of a player is Tarky, ideally suited for the holding midfielder role!
Re: Tarky Superb Yesterday
I know what you mean but I disagree, I see him as the ball player, the 'quarter back' if you like, in a back three of two hardnut centre halves (Ben and someone else) and Tarks..perfect.boatshed bill wrote:bit of a player is Tarky, ideally suited for the holding midfielder role!

I'm only jesting, Diesel, I can see him slotting in really well if/when Michael Keane leaves.Diesel wrote:I know what you mean but I disagree, I see him as the ball player, the 'quarter back' if you like, in a back three of two hardnut centre halves (Ben and someone else) and Tarks..perfect.
I'd still love it if Keane stayed though, and we play Tarks, Keane and Mee as a back 3.

I was parodying Ablueclaret with his constant championing of Tarky as a midfielder.Diesel wrote:Ha, you have just kidded a kidda, feel a dick now.
considering how few competitive games he's had since he joined us Tarky slotted in brilliantly.

Brilliant performance and think he will be good for us however I worry about his lack of pace.

He was very good yesterday. But a back for of Lowton, Tarks, Mee and Ward is a touch short on pace.

So are you saying that Keane supplies almost all the pace in the back department?claretspice wrote:He was very good yesterday. But a back for of Lowton, Tarks, Mee and Ward is a touch short on pace.
Tarks is probably almost as fast as Keane in any case.
And as for not particularly known for pace defenders, I give you Cahill and Terry.
Re: Tarky Superb Yesterday
Pace is a myth regards centre halves, guile is the essence.
John McGreal being a prime example.

Reading the game still a vital element for a centre-back. But, given the giants now playing pro football, a massive physical presence is also very important. Nobody is going to bully Tarks!Diesel wrote:Pace is a myth regards centre halves, guile is the essence.

Re: Tarky Superb Yesterday
I think Keane is the only defender we use who has notable pace, yes. By which i mean he has the pace to recover situations and cover for others and retrieve mistakes. Mee isnt slow for a centre back - he got by for pace at full back - but it is probably fair to say that its a lack of pace that means Lowton and Ward (whilst again not slow) are solid rather than top end premier league players.boatshed bill wrote:So are you saying that Keane supplies almost all the pace in the back department?

Pace is far from everything, so i certainly wouldnt overrated it, but its increasingly important and whilst not everything member of a back 4 needs to have real pace, it helps if one or two do. Particularly if you want to push the full backs on and hold a fairly high line, as we often do.
But lets not let this debate about the future detract from the fact Tarkowski was outstanding yesterday and deserves all the plaudits. I'd like to see him get another game or two before the end of the season and i'd certainly not be rushing to get Mee back if he's not absolutely 100%.

Re: Tarky Superb Yesterday
As you say they certainly aren't slow. In fact I'd suggest the difference is noticeable simply because Keane is so very quick for a centre half - in fact he's quicker than Gray and the quickest at the club.

Old enough to remember, Bobby Moore, he had no pace! Tarky will be fine.

Re: Tarky Superb Yesterday
BFS would have given his right wallet to have had the likes of Tarks and Keane at the centre of his flaky defence yesterday.
Well done Sean Dyche. Tactics were spot on when dealing with full backs playing in the centre of defence.

Re: Tarky Superb Yesterday
Apart from one mistake he did little wrong.
The way he overreacted to the lighter brushing past his head though was embarrassing!
He only reacted when he saw the offending object on the floor lol. It was quite funny but not what I expect of a Burnley player and I'm pretty sure Ben Mee would of not even noticed being hit by it

Re: Tarky Superb Yesterday
His "overreaction" was just a way of bringing the officials' attention to it surely?
People who throw things at footballers on the pitch need to be identified, weeded out and banned. If he contributed to that process- all well and good.
I guess he could've approached the ref and said "excuse me sir, I've just received one on the nodder from something thrown from the spectator area, do you think you could possibly do something about that?" but his solution was a bit more to the point.
