Interest in Heaton
Part of the BBC papers round up. Palace and Newcastle interested in Heaton, price tag £15m.
I'm not sure we have a player more important to us. I'd imagine we could keep Palace at bay but could Newcastle turn Tom's head if a genuine approach was made ? Hopefully his staying up bonus will help keep him here.

The papers will link Newcastle to a lot of players this summer, especially with Benitez being there.

Re: Interest in Heaton
Due to his age, he is probably worth no more than 15mill. That being the case we would be daft to sell as any replacement, even half as good, would probably cost the same. Give him a decent pay rise and let him stay at the club he supports.

I agree he's our most important player and worth more to us than the £15 million mentioned. Good keepers are hard to come by whereas other positions generally have more quality options out there to pick from.

Re: Interest in Heaton
Having pocketed upwards of £200 million for consecutive seasons in the Premier League I'd be livid if we sell our best player for 7.5% of that prize. We simply wouldn't have been promoted or survived without him and losing him puts us in far greater danger of relegation. That's before we consider the damage it would do to the squad if they see our captains head turned. Pay him whatever Newcastle/Palace would do to keep him.
Re: Interest in Heaton
If they're serious we should start negotiations at £25 million. We don't need to sell so put a silly price tag on him and see if anyone comes calling. He's our captain, arguably the player of the season and a regular in the England set up.

Re: Interest in Heaton
We sold players like Austin when we needed to as a club
Players like Trips when we had to
Keane will be the same, but the money will be right
We have signed the best players we could afford
Now the trick is to hold on to the right players as long as we can
Heaton is the first step

Re: Interest in Heaton
I believe most of his family live in the area and some are Burnley supporters, so considering that I would doubt very much that he would want to go anywhere.
It's said that everyone has their price, but with 5 or more years left in him I would guess that he will stay here.
As for media talk they do have space to fill.

Re: Interest in Heaton
He's 31 years old, which isn't too old for a goalkeeper, however he's probably at his peak right now. The goalkeeping berth is obviously different than other positions as there's only one place to fight for. Tom has the number one shirt and the captain's armband here and his passion for the club is clear. He also have a team who play to his strengths - one of the reasons he's hardly ever exposed and rarely makes a mistake.
If he's offered silly money then his head could be turned, however I suspect that he wouldn't be agitating for a move to the likes of Palace or Newcastle. I'm not sure what his contract situation is but I'd be looking to tie Heaton down on a lucrative contract with a relegation release clause as he's possibly the most important player at our club.

I think if Tom leaves he will be joining a better club than either Newcastle or Palace, who could quite easily finish below us in the premier league next season.

There are six, maybe seven that represent an serious upgrade on us (assuming we stay up) and would tempt Heats.
Newcastle and Palace are not in that group.

Re: Interest in Heaton
I suspect Heaton is one of our better paid players but even with a biggish bonus payment due
could probably make 20k more at Newcastle.
That's a significant amount but not the difference between struggling to survive for the rest of his days
and being able to not worry about his pension.

Re: Interest in Heaton
Two things would gave him considering a move, money and an opportunity to improve chances of becoming England's first choice. A move to a bigger club would not necessarily mean ad many starts. He has left Man Utd once against advice of Ferguson, he will be with us next season.

Nothings ever certain in football but I would be shocked if Heaton left. He has everything he could want at Burnley apart from ridiculous wages. Is it worth the risk and turmoil of a move? He has been on the bench far too long in his career to risk going back there.

Re: Interest in Heaton
Why speculate like this? It achieves nothing. It just raises your stress levels and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it no matter how loud you shout. What will happen will happen. It's better to just get on with your life, worry less and then deal with whatever you have to deal with at that time. It's fate, and thinking we can do anything about these will-they or won't-they moves, with hand-wringing, speculation and fretting, won't influence the outcome one jot. I'm sure that Tom Heaton, Michael Keane et al don't lose a single moment of sleep worrying about what my next job will be and neither will I worry about theirs...

Re: Interest in Heaton
The only reasons he has to leave are money and career enhancement.
In money terms we should match any reasonable offer he gets. He's that good.
Career enhancement would mean a club in European competition. Of them only Liverpool and Everton would be looking for an upgrade on what they have.
Newcastle and CP!!! stop it I'll wet mesen.

Re: Interest in Heaton
he is the best keeper in the country, 15 mill is idiotic, we need him to keep us where we are, if anyone is serious, then 30 million would be about right, then comes the problem of finding an adequate replacement. not much chance of finding a better goalie.

Was just going to say the same thing. I wonder if we've now got a set up on a par with Palace given our new training facilities. They might be able to afford higher wages but our ground is certainly nicerLancasterclaret wrote:There are six, maybe seven that represent an serious upgrade on us (assuming we stay up) and would tempt Heats.

Tom Heaton is 31 which equates to at least another 5 seasons at the top. His value to us is 25m + and I still wouldn't welcome a sale.

Palace couldnt see it unless they offered treble his wage.
Newcastle far more realistic. Bigger club than us massive fan base and potential. Billionaire owner.
The one I worry about is Everton. Need a keeper. North west. Top club with potential. Great manager with a big name. Would almost certainly guarantee him number one for england.

Same day, different paper, said Schmeichel who is 30 himself, is valued at 35mill.
Something is wrong here, media bullshit again.
Link a club with a dozen different players, or a player with a dozen different clubs, then if one comes off they brag that you heard it here first.

Re: Interest in Heaton
I've never understood why keepers are so undervalued. Clubs will pay £50m and more for top goal scorers, so why not the blokes who keep them out?
Also, coz we're Burnley, the media seem to think "bigger" clubs can get our players on the cheap, as the Schmeicel example shows.
I do worry that Liverpool or Everton could come knocking, but we'd be mad to consider anything under £30m. He's not long since signed a new contract hasn't he? Sure I read he has 3 years to go, and 32 is no age problem for a keeper.

I'm also quite surprised nobody has shown interest in him(or at least reported interest) this is one player we should be looking to give a 5 yr contract too. if he continues as he has so far for us it might not be long before one of the top 8 start looking this way. unless its a team who are in Europe season after season there really is no point him going anywhere else while were in the Premier League.
