Food for thought - our obsession with the anti Burnley Media

Post by Devils_Advocate » Sat May 06, 2017 6:40 pm

This board seems to have a fair share of over sensitive paranoid fans who seem to think the media and especially Sky seem to have it in for little old Burnley everytime we are not lavished with praise or given massive amounts of coverage.

They seem to think there is a bias to big clubs and other certain clubs where they think there is a media love in with Brighton being one of the ones they constantly bleat about on here.

Now Brighton and Newcastle the two best clubs in the Championship this year will be battling it out for the ultimate prize of champions tomorrow just like we we were with Brighton and Boro last season.

Sky have decided to snub showing Newcastle and Brighton live and have instead decided to focus on the final day relegation battle between Rovers and Forrest.

Now imagine if last year there had been a relegation battle and they would have decided to show that instead of us against Charlton. There would have been an absolute meltdown on this board around sky's anti Burnely agenda and there would have been absolutly no reasoning with them around it being just a neutral decision around what Sky think is best games to show and that it had nothing to do with it being Burnely

Not seen any mention of this decision from Sky and it just got thinking about how funny the over reaction would have been on here had it happened last season and impacted us

There was a comment the other day about something going against us that had me in absolute stitches.

It was to do with Barton's ban, basically suggesting he was banned because he played for us.
Or something along those lines.

Some people really do have paranoia issues, but its hilarious when those issues surface on here.

Whats the explanation for sean dyche being overlooked for champiomship of the season last year by chris hughton? That was a disgrace in itself.

And the FA not taking the trophy to Charlton when we won the league.
After last weeks victory at Palace, the panel just focused on the controversial penalty that Wilf not Zaha could've had.

What the hell is the actual point of the OP? There are some over-sensitive paranoid fans, but your example is crap. When Sky selected the Charlton v Burnley and Brighton v Middlesbrough game I'm pretty sure that any 2 of those 3 times could have won, or lost out on automatic promotion on the final day. As it panned out we achieved promotion the game before, but Sky had already decided to screen our game then. Newcastle and Brighton have both been comfortably promoted for some time, leaving them fighting for the Championship, which in reality is far less important.

As Rileybobs has explained it's obvious why they've chosen today's games. Sky will always go on the last day where there are major things to be decided.

Last year, all of Charlton, MK & Bolton had been relegated before the final day of the season so nothing to show there. The top six had all been decided because 7th place Cardiff were 7 points behind 6th place Sheffield Wednesday. That left only the top three to concentrate on. We were already promoted but not certain of the title and Middlesbrough v Brighton, the game they concentrated on, was the battle for the next promotion place.

Makes nonsense of the OP to be honest.

I think there is some anti-Burnley feeling at work regarding television but I don't think that is through any animosity but because we are still, relatively, small fry and will not command as much interest and coverage. I wouldn't worry about it.
On the other hand, Dyche comes across particularly well and he seems hugely popular on the MOTD and Sky studio panels and has worked wonders in raising our profile.
