Just been speaking to a Villa mate of mine who was gutted Westwood was hounded out of Villa. He says he is a confidence player and when he feels settled he rarely gives the ball away. I've been impressed with him so far.
Needs a song does the lad !

I too spoke to a Villa mate last night. He said that many Villa fans were split on Westwood: some thought he was absolutely quality; others chose him (for no apparent reason), to be the terrace 'boo boy' in their times of Premier League dire straits.
We've got an absolute gem: a poor man's Michael Carrick-he simply doesn't give the ball away.

Sounds a bit like Jones. I thought he was class for the Chsmpionship and could see what he brought to the team but the crowd was often split.

Players like Jones & Westwood are worth their weight in gold.

How much would 70kg of gold cost, CT?

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here, Westwood has played well against palace and all of a sudden he's a superstar?
He was pretty much non existent previous.
Jones is and always has been garbage. Limited player who playes limited football. Rather have a Defour than a Jones. Mind you hose who big up Jones will no doubt think Defour isn't up to it.

He reminds me of Mr Marney when he first came, he seemed to split opinions.
Personally really impressed with him , thought he was outstanding on Saturday moved the ball quick and sharp don't think he gave the ball away ,excellent signing for a relative snip of a fee.

But he's not garbage is he? Maybe in relation to Zidane or Pirlo, yes. But as a Championship player he was very good and did very well for us. He was a bit too limited at Premier League level though, that's fair enough.

So your opinion is houlier than anyone else's then?
If he was that good then why weren't a host of clubs after him? Like I said limited player who played limited football. If you seen anything different then it's jack a norey.

No - but my opinion is based on the superb contribution he made in the three years he was at our club, simple as that.

It's looking like about £30 grand a kilo, so Westwood is worth considerably more than his weight in gold!

Agreed. They do the 'simple' stuff very well. I put inverted commas round simple because it isn't so simple.

I've always said you can tell whether a person understands and appreciates football by their thoughts towards players like Jones and Westwood.
Those who dismiss them as garbage are invariably clueless. No offence.

********. Good player. Instrumental in winning promotion for us and other teams. Bought by Wednesday for what was it 3m? - a top 6 club in the championship. We have better players now of course but they've all cost a lot more.
Anyone with half a brain can see that your opinion that he is ""garbage" is complete and utter cat arse in light of the career he has had and the fact that a top Championship club snapped him up - that's why we can by pass your extremely flawed judgement- not that anyone is "holier than thou".
And what the hell does that last comment mean? It's not even a proper sentence?

It's not always the perceived ability of a player that counts, but rather what he gives your team.
Example: Scot Arfield!

Ashley Westwood weighs 80.5kg.
Gold is currently £30.40 a gram.
That's £2,447,200.
He's worth twice his weight in gold, he's that good.

Why do people forget how much better we looked at the start of the 13/14 season compared to the previous season? It was largely down to having a class, composed, ball-retaining central midfielder for the first time in years.
I know it's only your opinion and you're entitled to it. But it's complete horse sh*t.
Also, you seem to have forgotten that Westwood also played (and got man of the match) against West Brom.

I thought his unpopularity was down to him being signed by Laws?

In the Prem maybe, but he was signed with us in the Championship and played most of his games there. He was very good.
If he gets promoted with Wednesday this season, do you know how many times he'll have been promoted from that league?

I'm of the opinion both Jones and Westwood, were/are both good servants for the club.... the difference between the 2 is that Westwood appears to do the same stuff as Jones, but at a higher tempo and with more purpose.

Until SD arrived, he didn't really pull up any trees, but he was perfect for the way we play now.

However, from what I have seen, he is very capable and works his shift.

remind me of when cantona called didier deschamps a water carrier as if he was insulting him , when those who really understood football know the value of said water carriers..... LOL
