When did you think we would survive?
After we'd demolished Sunderland at home and got to 23 points at the half way stage I was very confident after that.

I thought we would survive the day we won promotion before a ball was kicked in the PL. Now that just might have been wishful thinking at the time but I did think it and have never changed my opinion, but questioned my opinion a couple of times before the CP game (in the few games before it) where I thought we would do well to get a draw. Which really does go a long way to show my thinking is no where near being factual

Hardly sticking my neck out when I say Palace away. However, the performance v Chelsea at home was very uplifting though I was then concerned soon after with the debacle v Lincoln and the impact it might have. Have mentioned on another thread how vital I thought the point at Hull a week later was.

When was the last time we got more points in the first half of the season than in the second half?
Re: When did you think we would survive?
Not sure I thought we would definitely survive at this point, but the Palace home game, where we exorcised the demons of 2 years ago. It could have all gone pear shaped that day if Palace had got a winner.
Barnes' last minute winner showed we had true grit and mental strength and somehow made me feel that everything would be different this time around

Interesting question. We need to beat Bournemouth & West Ham to match this seasons total in the first half.

Re: When did you think we would survive?
Two defeats for me changed my mind. I thought after the Chelsea game we would be safe. But the defeat against Lincoln coupled with the performance made me think the worse, But then the performance away at Anfield in defeat made me think we were too good to go down if we could reproduce that often enough.

Southampton (home obvs). That was when I had my rational head on (Worzel Gummidge style).

Never under Sean and if you accept the results we have had but put them in order they should have been played with Pool away first half and home 2nd half we would have 20 from the first 19 and 20 from the last 17.
It used to be the norm in the Championship that we gained more points first half than 2nd. until SD came I think you have to go back to Stans time for a season in Div 2 when we got more pts in the second half of the season

Re: When did you think we would survive?
Draws away at Boro Sunderland and Hull all pointed to our being better than these teams as it's been proved.
Stoke was the icing on the cake after a poor performance v Spurs and we delivered.
Sean's tactics have been questioned including his sometimes bizarre use or not of subs. However, his pragmatic approach one game at a time mantra works

Re: When did you think we would survive?
I said at the time that if we got 4 pts from the Boro and Sunderlands games at home we'd be looking healthy. 6 pts against two poor looking sides left me in no doubt.
Normally I'm resolute but I wobbled a bit after the Lincoln game. We seemed to have too many quality players either crocked or on the bench.
The 1-0 vs Stoke was very pleasing because it was on my birthday.

Re: When did you think we would survive?
I wasn't certain until we beat Stoke and even then I have to say not close to
100%. When Gray smashed in the second against Palace and we got those 3 points
and our first away win then I did feel we'd survive.
Sam's two goals and the draw against the Baggies with Hull losing confirmed it.
God knows how I"d feel had we lost to Palace.

Re: When did you think we would survive?
I only started to actually believe we had a great chance when we beat Boro then Sunderland at home in December. Two wins on the bounce in less than a week against two teams we simply had to beat at home to have a chance. And it moved us quickly from 17 to 23 points which helped us psychologically and also probably mentally killed some of our relegation rivals.

Re: When did you think we would survive?
Start of the season, I said we would finish 14th. Just based on recognising the terrific team spirit our players have. Really believe if a team plays with passion and determination they will achieve more than more talented but arrogant teams.
I don't understand the difference between home and away forms. That needs to be addressed if we are to survive the coming season.

Your thinking was factual all along... i was of the same thinking, i was worried where the goals were gonna come from towards the end.it is known as squeaky bum time,we overcame it and were right all along. And we will be fine next season also! A new era awaits our club im sure.KateR wrote:I thought we would survive the day we won promotion before a ball was kicked in the PL. Re: When did you think we would survive?
I'm not known for my calmness in these situations but while all seem to have constantly hit the panic button, I was reasonable confident after the Sunderland win and since we beat Leicester on 31st January I don't think I've ever been too concerned. I always felt that too many teams would have too many points to catch up and so it has proved.

Had an inkling we might do it when we won 3-2 at home against Palace as those were the sort of games we lost last time around and it showed we had progressed.

Sunderland at home. A banana skin game that we dispatched with some ease. We were holding our nerve, especially at home, and turning games we'd have drawn last time into wins; picking up the bread and butter points.
