Just looking at who has played the most for Burnley in Sean Dyche's 199 league games. Interestingly, the highest 11 can be fit into a team in 4-4-2. Included Grant on the bench to get a goalkeeper but all of Wallace, Barton, Stanislas, Treacy, Taylor, Edgar and Lafferty made more appearances.
Heaton (163)
Trippier (111) Duff (103) Shackell (117) Mee (161)
Boyd (114) Marney (116) Jones (124) Arfield (157)
Vokes (165) Ings (105)
Subs: Keane (100), Barnes (90), Kightly (76), Gray (71), Ward (68), Lowton (61), Grant (33).

Re: Sean Dyche's most selected players
No surprises with Heaton, Mee, Arfield and Jones being up there. The backbone of what we have achieved over the last few years.

Re: Sean Dyche's most selected players
From the subs bench the only improvement would seem to be Keane for Duff and Ward for Mee.
Why have we done better this season? Is it more choice of midfielders/wingers - e.g., Gudmundsson, Barton, Westwood, Brady, Defour? Or is it Keane and Mee in the middle? Or even Lowton and Ward?

Re: Sean Dyche's most selected players
If you look at his most chosen back four, only Mee plays now and in a different position. That doesn't make much sense I suppose because we all know how good Trippier was and Shackell was excellent for us on the pitch. We have more options up front and in midfield too.Hipper wrote:From the subs bench the only improvement would seem to be Keane for Duff and Ward for Mee.

Why ignore the most selected of all in Big Sam?Blackrod wrote:No surprises with Heaton, Mee, Arfield and Jones being up there. The backbone of what we have achieved over the last few years.
Ah, that's why.Blackrod wrote:I'm not usually a big fan but he has been excellent in the last two games.

Re: Sean Dyche's most selected players
The success this season has got to be because of :
1) The quality of our defence / keeper - and the lack of injuries, suspensions for Heaton, Lowts, Keane, Mee and Ward. I'd say these 5 players are our top 5 players of the season and you could pick anyone of them to be player of the season and I doubt you would get many fans disagreeing. I don't think any club in the league has had this scenario this year and it does seem to me quite unusual.
2) The improved quality of the squad. Best squad in my lifetime. Competition in most positions. Several games where our bench has been worth more than £30m. The option to bring on these kind of players during a game or rotate players due to loss of form, injuries, suspensions has got to have been a big factor in explaining the difference this year from our last 2 attempts to stay up.
If we would have had the loss of form, injuries and suspensions in our defence similar to what we had with the midfield and strikers it's debatable whether we could have stayed up as other than Tarks I'm not sure we have the same quality of cover.
