Unless we increase the away points next season we will struggle to stay up.
Mainly also because I cannot see the remarkable home points tally being the same due to teams knowing what to expect and 2nd season syndrome. The big improvement has to be developing a effective system/formation to gain more points on our travels not only to increase confidence but to take pressure off every single home game. That obviously will help with the right personnel also but waiting for a away win for 9 months will not be what the doctor ordered next season.
Why does everyone think the main reasons are for the away form ? Set up ? Too cautious ? Not enough in final third ? Not enough goal threat ? Combination of things ?

Don't worry Brian - we will.
There have been plenty of away games where we could have had points or wins with a little luck or a decent ref.

Bearing that in mind if we had both of them how many extra points are you talking pal and from which games ?

Everybody knows it including the board and the manager, BIG summer for recruitment is required
Re: Unless we increase the away points next season we will struggle to stay up.
Poor Refs Arsenal 1, Spurs 1, Swansea 1, Luck Sunland 3, Boro 3 - off the top of my head.
Then at home with good ref decisions Arsenal 1, Leicester -2

More quality in the strikers department. The ability to hold the ball up and retain possession for longer than we have is vital to progress next season.

Let's see what happens at Bournemouth tomorrow.

We've just had the best and most successful season in over 40 years and a negative thread starts about next season. Amazing.

I know the transfer window hasn't opened yet, but I am close to wishing it was about to close.

Let's just enjoy the last two games and then the summer knowing we're not, much like our neighbours, going to be playing Championship football next season.
Re: Unless we increase the away points next season we will struggle to stay up.
One thing we shouldn't take into account is refereeing decisions. We will have the same referees and, barring a miracle, plenty of the same poor decisions against us next season. They only "even themselves up" if you're one of the big boys.
We definitely do need to improve away from home and thankfully we have got that monkey off our backs this season. Hopefully that will instil a little extra belief and confidence for next season.
It's a fair comment to say that we have to improve away and it's pretty likely that our home form next season won't be at the level it has this. Hopefully the players that we bring in will allow us to be set up a little differently away from home and go at teams a little more.
We've looked better away when we have given the opposition something to think about.

Personally I cant see us surviving in The Premier League much beyond 2046/47 but at least by then we will have been Champions of Europe on 4 occasions !!!!!!s6t9a2f3f wrote:Mainly also because I cannot see the remarkable home points tally being the same due to teams knowing what to expect and 2nd season syndrome. Don't really see it as a negative thread. It's a topic that will have to be addressed sooner rather than later. Next season's squad will include new faces hopefully contributing to a successful season again. In hindsight maybe a topic for discussion once the season has ended.

how on earth is this seen as a negative thread ?? It's a stating the obvious thread but nothing more than that ffsClaretTony wrote:We've just had the best and most successful season in over 40 years and a negative thread starts about next season. Amazing.

Just to make it quite clear, are you saying that if we get fewer home points next year we'll need more away points to make up the difference?s6t9a2f3f wrote:Mainly also because I cannot see the remarkable home points tally being the same due to teams knowing what to expect and 2nd season syndrome. What about if we win more at home? Will we stay up then?

Hi Brian, how do you think we'd perform if we played all our games at neutral grounds?s6t9a2f3f wrote:Mainly also because I cannot see the remarkable home points tally being the same due to teams knowing what to expect and 2nd season syndrome. We do well at home. A lot of other teams also do well at home. So long as we get at least 40 points we will enjoy the season.

I think of our away form gets as good as our home form we will be in Europe. Dyche builds.

Re: Unless we increase the away points next season we will struggle to stay up.
I think it's quite clear to most that this season we've had a very good defensive midfield but has struggled to play through the opposition when in possession. This summer should hopefully see us recruiting quality that can not only remain strong in a defensive framework, but have more ability offensively. Keeping possession, playing through the opposition and taking the ball into the penalty area and wide areas for crosses. It should allow our defence to line further up the pitch keeping play in the final third. We are already quite effective when we do have the ball, we need to increase the amount of time we have it in the right areas of the pitch.

Next season's hardly likely to be any easier than this season has been.
If we can manage 40 points I won't care where we get them.

Re: Unless we increase the away points next season we will struggle to stay up.
I have to say I hate when people say we can't do the same next season as teams will have figured us out. So you are saying that after 3 or 4 home games this season no premier league manager will have figured us out until next season. Dyche has outclassed most of his peers this season. The only manager that really paid us any attention was Mourinho who recognised the second balls off Barnes were a threat and putting Feillani on him.
Our home form will continue next season in the same vain. Players don't like coming here as the facilities don't tender to their needs. The fans are passionate. We don't care if they have the ball 80% of the time because we are disciplined and will hurt you when we have the 20%
