Re: Hollands Goalkeeper
Obv tried to win some money for his family by making a fool of himself on national tv eating a pie.
Not sure everyone thought it was good tv either (as he says on the radio link here), it all looked pretty foul and made his club look unprofessional to be honest.

I thought the whole thing was blown way out of proportion. Feel bad for him.

Re: Hollands Goalkeeper
I do feel for him....I know he mucking about and playing up to the stereotype. Whether or nor he and his mates had bets on it I dunno. He'll have to prove that.
I am sorry that he is depressed about whats happening, he brought a lot of attention to him and he probably doesn't know how to handle his 15 minute of fame which he's getting a grilling for.
On another note, it's not like this action has ended his career. He barely played for them and had a job outside of that. Should Sutton had not had a cup run no-one would have known anything about him and he would have just been Wayne the Sunday League footballer. So it's a bit different if this had happened to a young semi pro with a career ahead of him.
What are the FA gonna do if he is found guilty, ban him from playing for 18 months?

I don't know how he will go about proving that he or his family/friends haven't had a bet.

Wigan Warriors have put an offer in for him..
Re: Hollands Goalkeeper
Why didn't the FA just say that they are only concerned with football bets; and if a bookie wants to take bets on a pie-eating contest it's nowt to do with the FA.Bin Ont Turf wrote:Pretty sad business for Wayne Shaw and he's been treat very poorly...............

Re: Hollands Goalkeeper
To me the betting company were totally irresponsible for offering odds on something which the person in question can so easily determine. In one sense if he DIDN'T eat a pie he could also be charged with being complicit in the bet. I.E. deciding to allow the betting company to win and the punters to lose.

Re: Hollands Goalkeeper
Exactly. It's a **** situation for the lad. One the one side, he made a bit of tit of himself and the club in the limelight. On the other, the FA/FIFA will happily take betting companies sponsor money but then clamp down on anyone in football that might even be slightly involved in betting and labelling bringing the reputation of the sport into disrepute.Dark Cloud wrote:To me the betting company were totally irresponsible for offering odds on something which the person in question can so easily determine. It's completely double standards in that sense. Hope he gets through this difficulty

Plus it had to be seen on TV. Surely the TV company are complicit too?
