Where does Corbyn 'put' his money

Post by dermotdermot » Mon May 15, 2017 8:57 pm

He gets a whopping £140,000 a year but says that he is not rich because of 'where he puts it'.

Any ideas as to just where he 'puts it'.

Probably some off shore account that politicians are all privy to. You never see a poor MP.

I would hazard a guess at a political cause or charity.

Would love to know but dread the thought of knowing at the same time.

It has got everybody guessing though.

JC seemed a bit shy about admitting he is a rich/wealthy man.

He's been an MP since 1983. He'll get at least 39 years in Parliament - and a very generous pension when he retires.

If he gets add-on to his pension for his time as Leader of the Opposition he will be very close to, if not above, the £80,000 figure on his pensions alone.

His earnings whilst he's been an MP for decades + the very generous, laxly controlled, expenses (admittedly it's unlikely he's pressed the extremes of the allowances like many MPs) + the generous pension mean that he's very well off indeed.
The fact that he won't admit that indicates an internal contradiction between his "for the poor people" stance and reality.
Maybe this amount of wealth is not considered large by the majority of his supporters though.

Depends what he does with his money. He did say he was well paid.

Doesn't really change what he stands for.

It must be quite hard to be not wealthy when you have a £1.5m pension pot, a mortgage-free £600k house and a £140k pa salary.

He gets 140k a year then pays his tax & N.I with the rest he

Spends 48k a year on his mortgage
Spends 10k a year on his pension
Spends 72k a year on living expenses
Spends 7k a year on holidays
Spends 5k a year travelling expenses
Donates 10k a year to ISIS
Donates 10k a year to injured members of the IRA
Spends 20k a year taking Diane Abbott to lunch

Good to see his personal spending is on a par with his manifesto.

I doubt very much that JC is in it for the money.

I also doubt that he either gives or receives money from ISIS/IRA despite what certain disingenuous posts above assert.

Just yet another uninspired anti-Labour post.

At least we know that JC is not spending it on expensive leather trousers and red high heeled shoes.

Anti-Labour post? I don't think so. I think that the appointment of the unapologetic and prominent communist party member, Andrew Murray, to Corbyn's campaign team dispels that theory.

Fascinating that people are speculating on what Jeremy Corbyn does with £140k a year rather than ask how much the May's are actually raking in. Philip May is a senior executive at a relatively unknown investment fund company with over 1.4 TRILLION DOLLARS in assets.

What a sad. tragic thread.
Is this what passes for 'political debate' in the run-up to an important General Election?
It is not even amusing..most of it is made up of sly, untrue offensive digs.

Even casual pretty-uninformed observers of the political scene would spot that he doesn't appear to be particularly motivated by money [for himself].
- why don't you look at the link in post 21, which makes it clear that...

'Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn is the country’s lowest expenses claimer'.

- can I brazenly suggest that the MP's of one political party in particular, are waaaay more interested in 'MONEY' than the MP's of any other party?
- which party do I mean do you think?

post 1..dermotdermot - 'He gets a whopping £140,000 a year'.
Is that a lot for our Prime Minister?
Have you spotted that some of our dimmest footballers earn around £250,000 - £300,000 a WEEK?

post 27..claretdom - I am gonna send a copy of this thread to Corbyn's constituency office today, and see what they make of your IRA/ISIS comments..
- too late to edit it now.. :D
- as for your comment about the 'manifesto'..it is not 'his' manifesto...and it hasn't been published yet...jeez..we get the politicians we deserve I guess.

A truly krapp thread..some of you should be mightily embarrassed by your infantile comments.

Out of interest, Dermot, what level of poverty does JC need to live in for it to be acceptable for him to want to help ordinary people? For example, is he allowed a HDTV? or would that be too hypocritical?

Absolutely nothing to do with an 'acceptable' amount of poverty. More a matter of where he
intriguingly, 'puts' his money.

Incidentally, even I do not have an HDTV, just an old Sony Triniton tube, the sort that sticks out at the back.

With the cost of living set to soar and inflation on the rise old age pensioners will all be in the money very soon.

yes.

you can't blame people on here though, you only have to look at the tories' campaign which is being run almost entirely on a 'we're not corbyn' stance. even at the recent local and mayoral elections it was the same. no real new ideas or policies themselves, just slagging the opposition.

although, given half the labour party has been slagging him for the past 2 years, you perhaps can't blame the others for joining in.

47..can I suggest that everyone has a close look at the Labour manifesto which will be published in an hour or two I believe.

Try and judge it just on it's content.

I hope [and think] it will contain plenty of good ideas and policies, and it will be for the many not the few.
- if it is not properly costed and realistic, then I will probably quickly lose interest in what it says.

If the Tories start banging on about Labour pushing up taxes, I wouldn't get too confused - the Tories will certainly increase taxation themselves, trust me... they will just be more disingenuous and dishonest about it.

Hopefully he practices what he preaches unlike Prescott and many Union leaders. He clearly doesn't think he pays enough tax so he should be donating the bulk of it to HMRC or public services.
