Double- Barrelled name
Not given it too much thought, I must admit, but having seen Nat Knight-Percival playing for Bradford, I
wondered if we have ever had a player with a double-barrelled name plastered on the back of his shirt.
Can't just think of one off the top of my head.

Re: Double- Barrelled name
Not sure, but surely we should be asking what happens if a person born with a double barreled surname marries someone else born with a double barreled surname?

Like normal, the women should take the man's last name.Awayfromburnley wrote:Not sure, but surely we should be asking what happens if a person born with a double barreled surname marries someone else born with a double barreled surname?

Re: Double- Barrelled name
Didn't Ian Moore add his wife's name in a rash of stupid modern thinking? After he played for us, and it wouldn't be hyphenated.

Yep, think he became Thomas-Moore.Quicknick wrote:Didn't Ian Moore add his wife's name in a rash of stupid modern thinking? After he played for us, and it wouldn't be hyphenated.

Re: Double- Barrelled name
Strange phenomenon this. Double barrelled names used to he symbolic of a white higher class. Now you'll find a lot of kids from poor backgrounds and broken homes having them. Not sure whether a link or not, but the footballers with them tend to be black.
Re: Double- Barrelled name
Not as bad as double barrelled first names in my opinion.
Bonnie-leigh, Bobby-jo, terri-ann etc . Terrible names, the mother's should be fined.

You have to go a long way to beat Alabama's former defensive back Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix. Why have one double barrelled name when you can have a double double.
But that's Alabama for you. The ones with 2x first names tend to be white. And they probably watch too much American tv, ranging from the Waltons to just about anything in redneck county. Remember the redneck sheriff in diamonds are forever having a cousin called 'Billy-Bob'?

Once went to a sportsman dinner where Steve Kindon was guest speaker. He said he played against a Liverpool defender with a double barrelled surname, Tommy ******* Smith

Re: Double- Barrelled name
An interesting topic, this. My mother had a double-barrelled name - Race-Stubbs. The following is a letter written by my grandfather to his two sons explaining how their surname came about.
