O/T Pendle Leisure Centre Astro Turf to become a car park?

Surely not !!

Some of you, like me must have played on this pitch at some stage.

It's been there well over 30 years as firstly an asphalt surface (ouch) and then became a 2G surface and I personally like many others played many a game on there.

Sadly the surface fell into disrepair and the Leisure Trust didn't have the money to replace it and eventually they won a lottery fund to put Urban Altitude on there with the big climbing frames but it went bust within 2 years.

The council have received various proposals but they now have a local consortium willing to put in £200k to upgrade the pitch into a state of the art 3G facility but at the moment it seems the council are happy to let it become a car park for Lloyds BMW.

Surely it must be good for the community to reinstate the facility as football venue especially as it won't cost the tax payer anything? The council wouldn't have to pay anythinng it seems apart from supply the facility as it is ....knackered.

Anyway the petition is attached if anyone is interested to help save one of our VERY FEW football pitches in this area.

Im pretty sure Joe Cooney fought hard to stop Marsden Golf club being sold, and Im sure he was well against the Urban altitude being closed.

What an absolutely disgraceful suggestion not to update but to vandalise this important local resource.

Grew up & got cut knees kicking the ball around the asphalt/gravel & could never understand why they built a "jungle gym" on it in the first place. In all the times I've driven pass I think I saw it in use once

The problem with Urban Altitude was that once you had done it............ You had done it. It wasn't the kind of facility you revisited often, unlike a football pitch.

Exactly this - especially in the prime location where you can get great views of the M65 & North Valley Road

It doesnt look like it'll take long to complete either - unlike something like "GoApe" which is an all day activity

1 hour time slots and 20 mins of that was getting geared up with harness and helmet. You chose either the high or low ropes and 1 or 2 activities such as zip wire or climbing wall. It was pretty uninspiring.

I have played on this pitch when it was cinders and also 2G. Absolute top notch facility. Lets hope democracy wins out and a self funded pitch can be put down.

We will find out on Thursday night which way the Council Executive vote. Lets hope Joe votes for keeping the National Sport alive and kicking!

It's all been very quiet, almost as if they are trying to sneak it through.

. was at a meeting recently where two of the Councillors suggested that the likely usage would be some sort of skate area. He knows the man who owns Boundary Mill is after the land. He believes they are trying to come up with some sort of way to please everyone (which seems quite impossible).

A skate park would probably end up another white elephant and who is going to pay for it. With the 3G proposal the money is there, 6 weeks from handing over the keys a brand new 3G would be there ready to play on. No brainer as far as the community is concerned!
