The Rolling Stones
Bit of a fan myself, but it can be an acquired taste.
Just watching the 69Hyde Park concert, and they were shocking.
Good to watch the crowd on the film, the band had a decent start in early 60's, but the character seemed to emerge during the 70's.
Can't fault their longevity, still capable of great songs, and have been beyond compare with tours and albums.
Keith Richard has become an iconic musical figure, but back then without the history, he looked mundane.
Definately a band that got better with age.

Aye, the taste between whether you like excellent music or not.

Re: The Rolling Stones
I've seen that a few times. I like the fact that Keith Richards just played, he didn't need to be all show off and such. They had some great tunes in the 60s that I love but I've not listened to anything later than that I don't think.

Re: The Rolling Stones
yes , Gimme shelter, incredible song.
and there are so many more. Latterly I thought Doom and Gloom was perfect.
They did Glastonbury too, but apart from that being a mudfest for university pricks, the stones were top notch.

Re: The Rolling Stones
another belter Electro,
I love the sound on so many of their tracks, even Honky Tonk women, so much going on, from the intro to the chorus, amazing journey in those lyrics and total production. Best ever.

A friend of mine went to see em in the 70s .
Lynyrd Skynyrd supported them. And according to him they made the Stones sound like a pub band.
Just his opinion......

Re: The Rolling Stones
Bin, .....this is so underrated !!!! absolutely brilliant track, vocals, another classic intro, played this about 100 times this week alone.
I said Honky Tonk was a mass of sound, this track is even more so, Voodoo Lounge , 93. What a selection.

there can be no animosity ever again Bin,because you posted that.
Re: The Rolling Stones
The Stones - for me it's the lyrics and the raw way in which Jagger delivers them in the songs. They were always much edgier band than the suit-wearing Beatles.
Jumping Jack Flash an all time fave of mine... over to you Mick...
"I was baaaaawn in a crossfire hurricaaaaayne"
Brilliant

Re: The Rolling Stones
Great in their time, but I'd no more want to have seen them in the last 20 years than I'd have wanted to watch an 80 year old Stanley Matthews play football.

Re: The Rolling Stones
I've not seen them live now since 1990 (Steel Wheels tour at Wembley) but will always love listening to the Stones.
I posted this recently on a thread but I was told in no uncertain terms by my grandma that I had not to like the Rolling Stones because they had long hair. Back then, in my schooldays, it was almost a requirement that you had to like the Stones or the Beatles, but not both. There was never any question for me. It's only rock'n'roll but I like it.

Re: The Rolling Stones
I always thought that Lynyrd Skynyrd records/tracks were either brilliant rock songs or slick radio friendly tunes with redneck lyrics designed for the wrestling s***kicker crowd.Wile E Coyote wrote: Lynrd Skynrd, were a denim jacketed, long haired, truly boring mess.
The only thing more annoying than a yank obsessed with Skynyrd is a yank obsessed with the Grateful Dead.
Re: The Rolling Stones
If only The Beatles carried on touring during their later years. The would have blown The Stones away. Tomorrow Never Knows live?? I'll have some of that.

Great band, massive dislike for jagger though
He owns the rights to the verves bittersweet symphony he's credited in writing the song which is hilarious. You would have thought, from one musician to another that he would have given Richard ashcroft his song back by now. Money grabber.

The verve should have done their homework - gone and asked Andrew Loog Oldham for the rights to sample the song - then they could have sampled a different song or credited The Stones & Andrew Loog Oldham - as it was they left it too late - and had to credit them as song writers rather than acknowledging the fact they sampled the song.
More Andrew Loog Oldham to blame than Jagger.

Re: The Rolling Stones
I went to Knebworth in 1976, a very hot dry summer and the Skynrds did make the Stones like a pub band.
LS were brilliant that day, simply one of the best live rock and roll acts ever.
