In our system he's not nearly as useful as he could be so it probably makes perfect sense to cash in. Recruitment has been excellent in recent years and selling players is. A fundamental part of our model for growth. If we turn a profit on Gray he's been brilliant business as already been key to a promotion so will have paid the 7 million or so back several times over.

£10 million inc addons, one of it which was not being relegated this season.
Initial payment was £6.5 million.
£15-20 million and he's off if he's not going to sign a new deal.
Would also put paid to the "He wants to return south" comments that have been mentioned on here.

I wonder, with staying in the PL, it will alter our policy regarding length of contracts. Three year contracts always make us vulnerable
First year - bedding in and in to the system
Second year - delivering on the goods
Third year - end of contract so forced to sell as renewal not taken up.
A fourth year would perhaps help?

Andre has always said contract negotiations would take place at the end if the season, how could he reject a deal when one hasn't been discussed?

I'd think an offer has been made?
So he's holding out to see who comes in for him, knowing we'll sell with only 12 months to go on current deal.
