Re: Will Arthur Caiger be at the Cup Final
Wow- I'd forgotten they did that much community singing. I don't think that they even do "Abide with me" now do they? They still have a bit of a singalong at the Rugby League final at Wembley though (certainly did a couple of years ago when I last went).
Another big difference to that final is the more cosmopolitan current personnel. That '48 final had 18 Englishmen, 3 Scots and an Irishman playing; managers were 1 Scot, 1 English . Nobody from beyond these Isles at all.
Unlikely we'll get 6 goals this time too, although Arsenal can be a bit flakey.

They still sing Abide with Me but I don't know when the community singing stopped. Arthur Caiger was still there in 1962 for our cup final. They did try to resurrect it once but it failed miserably.
Somehow I can't imagine a football crowd today joining in with the likes of Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag.

but there might be a few choruses of 'In our Lancashire home' when we visit Wembley next season!

Recall Gerry Marsden having a good at it once and also Bruce Forsythe. Fighting a losing battle unfortunately.

I think Gerry Marsden did it for one of the Liverpool v Everton finals in the 1980s - was definitely a losing battle by thenSilkyskills1 wrote:Recall Gerry Marsden having a good at it once and also Bruce Forsythe. Fighting a losing battle unfortunately.

The choir singing Abide With Me tomorrow is from Chant Productions, who are based in Burnley.
