Best Opposition Player At Turf Moor 16/17?

Post by Jakubs Tash » Wed May 31, 2017 11:45 am

Who would you say?

I got asked the question a week ago and struggled to answer it as there weren't that many that immediately stood out. Normally there's a Fabregas 14/15 type performance from a player from one of the top teams...but I don't think there was this season. I suppose this was in part down to our tremendous home form

On refelection I would say Llorente's performance first game of the season was outstanding. His touch and hold up play were excellent. I actually thought Charlie Adam was very good for Stoke ('that' corner apart) and ran the game. I thought Lanzini was very good for West Ham in a deeper role in the last game. You could also see why Van Dijk is so highly thought of at Saints - even though he ended up on the losing side he was imperious.

Van Dijk when we played Southampton. Won every header and made some great tackles when he had no right to win the ball.

Dele Alli was good, his miss aside.

Thought Lukaku and Bolasie looked good.

Martial was outstanding although Barton should have wiped him out.

Agree on Llorente.

Snodgrass good for Hull but not as much for West Ham.

We have been that good this season at home its hard to pick anyone.

Would probably have to go for Lincoln team fo rthe job they did on us!

Extremely impressed with Van Dijk - he made the game seem so easy and didn't put a
foot wrong all afternoon. A class act and destined for better things I would have thought.

Adams impressed me too, even the comedic elements.

Hazard was a 'slippery customer' .Very elusive, tremendous burst of pace and great balance. Fortunate enough to see him both times last season and he didn't disappoint. Reminded me in some ways of George Best. Another class act was/is Sanchez at Arsenal. So much skill with the ball at his feet. Must be wonderful to play in the same team as him. Have to agree with Lanzhini, who in a match that was dying on it's feet, demonstrated a masterclass of midfield artistry, especially in the 2nd half.

Some of the moaners on here would suggest Arfield and Boyd, however I agree with Van Dijk, I remember telling a moaning Liverpool fan at work he was the man to give their side some steel.

I know the lad didn't get a full game, but I thought young winks for Tottenham played very well for such a young lad.

Remember saying to a mate in the CFS, enjoy watching van dijk while you can. He's got RM/Barca written all over him.

agree about Winks but strangely the game turned in their favour after he went off!

I was really impressed by Romeu of Southampton, thought he played a midfield master class, didn't lose the ball and impossible to knock off it.

N'Golo Kante. Little ******* kept nicking the ball of us all over the pitch and was quick to spot a pass.

Easy to see how he galvanised Chelski into title winners.

Dele Alli and van dijk were the best two but being honest no opposition player played that well. Partly because of the way we played. We nullified their attackers whilst not over working their defenders so difficult for them to impress

Totally agree. Possibly the most dominant CB performance I have ever seen.

Van Dijk
Charlie Adam
Eric Bailly

These are the three that immediately spring to mind.

My picks:
Virgil Van Dijk
Eric Bailly
Dele Alli
Soufiane Feghouli

From a tactical point of view special mention to Fellaini for the absolute job Mourinho did on us by sticking him on Barnes. Finished us.

Agree wholeheartedly. Fellaini took Barnes completely out of the game.

Not sure there were real standouts like last time in the PL but Aguero, Fellaini, Adam and Allen all looked v good against us.

Well they did bring on Dembele, one of the finest midfielders in the League last season, but my vote also goes to young Winks. Best player on the field that day, and a performance that tells you why Pochettino sold Carroll to Swansea.
