Long replaced Brentford’s John Egan on 64 minutes with 64 minutes of the game gone.
Has anybody confirmed when he came on? :D

Injuries to Ben Mee and Michael Keane gives him three games and suddenly he's playing international football - a strange one.

According to the article. Hope you can understand that;CT clearly thinks that board readers struggle to follow some of his articles

I suppose it just highlights the lack of strength in depth for Ireland. He did come on for a Championship player after all and, while I'm not sure Long is Premier League standard, whenever he has played at a lower level he has done reasonably well. Nothing to suggest he is any worse than their other options.

It's Irelands weakest position. Not all the squad went to America and with ONiell playing a back 3 the dice went in his favour.

I streamed the game last night Minnie and to be honest we were all at sea with 3 at the back . Now I must say the Mexicans were very quick at getting forward and a good side to boot .
When Kevin came on we went back to four at the back and didn't concede after that . Kevin did give some lad a whack and gave the ball away once which was very careless but we got away with it .
His first game up so he has to be happy but the result could have ended 6-1 or 3-3 it was that sort of game really .

Only a good thing. Fair play to him. He could be our new Mike Duff.

I'm really pleased for the lad. This season he has looked fitter than in the past, and played well when given the opportunity. He has steadily improved over his career.

Good for him! I'm happy we have him but as a backup option.

HAHAHA! Insightful as ever.

26 years old (same as duff when we signed him)
Utility defender who can play centre half or right back
Not been a regular at this level yet but plenty of gametime elsewhere at lower levels
Not our first choice in any position but happy to bide his time

Sounds exactly like Mike Duff.

The only problem with your logic, is that he's nowhere near as good as Michael Duff was.

Well you didnt do a very good job of it!

And at 26 Duff had never kicked a ball at a level above what is now league two. So your point would have been invalid even if you had made it!

Oh I think it's very possible to say... so I'll say it again... he isn't as good as Michael Duff was.

Congratulations Kevin.

How many of our current squad have been capped for the first time at senior international level while Sean Dyche has been manager?

That basically means that for every full season Sean Dyche has been manager, one player has played at senior international level for the first time. I wonder who it will be next season. :?:

I love Michael Duff but he was utter rubbish for large parts of his Burnley career, really bad at fullback IMO. His best football was with Shackell.
Infact he was so crap at right back im sure I remember sat watching him play striker under Cotterill.

He was rarely if ever first choice up until the last few years and that was only by accident for large parts.

Good servant and a good utility player for the defence. Never grumbled always waited his chance. Hence comparisons with Long.

I remember bricking it when anyone ran at Duff for a long time of his Burnley career :D an absolute legend no doubt, but his transformation into a quality centre half was somewhat miraculous. That's what Kevin Long needs to become anywhere near as good as Duff, a miracle.
